How to protect turntable from children?
Depends a lot on your kids. It's a bit presumptuous for some to suggest that the issue is always parenting. There are limits to how far "parenting" will go -- especially if you have kids with any issues or special needs. My solution (for now) -- n...
Alarm Clock with Audiophile Grade Sound?
btw, "audiophile sound" is a stretch for any of these. Maybe "sound pleasing enough for an audiophile" would be more accurate.
Alarm Clock with Audiophile Grade Sound?
Polk i-Sonic sounds pretty good for that price. I've got one in my bedroom. BTW, any iPod dock is automatically a clock radio. So if you can find a used Arcam rCube or B&W Zeppelin, that could work.
Questionable Estate Auction practice
We do this in bankruptcy court auctions from time to time, but the rules are spelled out very clearly in advance, and everyone who qualifies to bid consents to the process. It's a smart way to sell, and is fair as long as everyone knows about it. ...
What's the best buy for 2nd hand at 200 USD?
There's at least one Thorens on ebay right now in your price range that could work for you. If you're not opposed to direct drive, there are some really cheap Denon TTs on ebay. I had one for years that was a workhorse and sounded good (on my coll...
what are the Best Direct to amps Digital Players ?
@AtmasphereThanks for the tips on the Minnesota speakers. The Wadia 121 has adjustable voltage. Can be set for 1v, 2v or 4v.
what are the Best Direct to amps Digital Players ?
Regarding the earlier questions and comments about Wadia - I just had my 121 repaired by them, so they are definitely not completely defunct. It took me a few calls to reach the right person. I got bounced to someone in San Francisco, and then fin...
Do Active Speakers Belong In A High End System?
Just wanted to throw the Linn Klimax speakers into the mix, which include built-in their excellent Klimax Chakra amps. (They use SMPS, but are not truly Class-D amps, I believe).
New Artist - amazing music
The John Tesh of the 5-string guitar. Sorry, but I don't get the appeal.
Best and Worst names in Audio
I'm sure many of you already know this, but some of you may not. My best friend had one of the earliest NAD cassette decks in the early '80s, and next to the NAD logo, it said "New Acoustic Dimension" in gold script lettering. So that is, in fact,...
Ethernet cable? What kind?
You only need Cat6a to maintain 10gb/s for runs over 120 feet. Not worth it for most houses.
Ethernet cable? What kind?
For that small a cable run, the difference in price between Cat5 and Cat6 is negligible. No reason not to run Cat6. Cat6 will handle 10 Gigabit ethernet and, therefore, is more "future proof."
Jagger gets a real job, finally.
I'm not advocating socialism or supporting Csontos, but why are so many of you content to say "nobody said life was fair?" That's obviously true, but that is hardly a convincing argument or statement of principle. Life, of course, isn't fair, but ...
new processor decision....help me decide
@Nick_sr - that was a typo. I meant put as much money as possible into the processor. Thanks for catching that.
new processor decision....help me decide
I can't see any reason why it would be desirable to decode - re-encode - decode. Makes no sense. If you want to use room correction and bass management, the processor needs to work with a digital signal. Therefore, you are best off feeding it a di...
