Dac magic plus
Update - After a week with the DM+, I am sending it back today. I'm not even sure if I let it burn in long enough, but I just got the sense that I wasn't going to be 100% happy with it. I thought it was a bit bright at the top and I noticed too mu...
Best beer
@Philjolet - not sure if we can get Bell's in California. I've never seen it here, but I'll keep an eye out for it.@Kennyt - I can't believe I forgot to mention Lagunitas brewery - that's one of my favorites.@Dopogue - Brother Thelonious is made b...
Best beer
@Lloydc - ale is a type of beer@everyone else. I'm a bit surprised that a group that is so knowledgeable about esoteric audio equipment is drinking so much beer from large breweries. If you live on the West Coast (U.S.) try breweries like Stone, F...
Best beer
Way too many to pick from these days. Given the number of fantastic micro-breweries on the West Coast (and everywhere else), there is no longer any reason to ship what are mostly over-hyped, mediocre beers from Holland, Germany, Belgium and Czech....
Sturdy sub - $50 in-ear headphones?
I've got a pair of orange Sennheiser in-ear phones that are specifically made for running. They sound great for the price, stay put in your ears when your moving, and the cord has no microphonic effect. Sorry, I don't have the model number, but I ...
Dac magic plus
@Dmgoodman - well, the Burson is an $800 stand-alone headphone amp, so I'm not really surprised. I got my Dacmagic Plus delivered yesterday. However, I'm still waiting for my Pangea USB cable and a replacement cable for my Sennheisers (my 7 year o...
Parents need clear sounding 2 ch HT
Another idea is headphones. I got some Sennheiser RS-220 wireless phones for late night TV/movie watching, since I live in a small house and have little kids who (are supposed to) go to bed early. I find it much easier to hear the dialogue clearly...
NEW CA DACMagic+
If my understanding is correct, there are major differences in the power supply between the original DacMagic and the Plus. One is AC and one is DC with a SMPS
best in-ceiling speakers
I've got the Linn Custom 104C in-ceiling speakers for my surround speakers in my HT system. They are a step-up from the Sekrits, I believe, and they sound great. However, I can't say I did a lot of shopping around. I already had Linn speakers in f...
Percentage of cable cost
I just read the test. Interesting, indeed. Not totally scientific, but the $8000 cable didn't beat the $3 cable by that much. A few years ago, a noted economist did some double-blind wine tasting tests and found that even the so-called "experts" c...
Dac magic plus
I'm bumping this thread since I just ordered one for my office system. I'm planning on hooking up my MacBook -> DacMagic+ -> Rotel power amp -> Meadlowlark Kestrel HotRods. Will also use my Sennheiser HD600s. I'm going to get rid of my pr...
Linn Classic vs Linn Majik
The Classik (with a K) is not just an integrated --- depending on which Classik, it also has a CD or DVD player and a tuner, as well as clock-radio functions. Majik, on the other hand, refers to a whole range of products that include power amps, p...
Linn 5140 aktiv cards in an LK100/140
You need to download Linn's Aktiv card selector spreadsheet: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=linn+aktiv+xls&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CFYQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Flinfo.linn.co.uk%2Fbinaries%2FBF670C4A-FAB4-4BCA-AD7476BF5C90...
Percentage of cable cost
Out of curiosity, how many of you have ever done double-blind tests on cables? I suspect the results would be interesting.
Processor DACs
OK - well I just ordered a Cambridge DacMagic+ for my office computer-audio system. Maybe I'll bring it home and hook it up to HT rig in a few different configurations to see how it compares to the Anthem DACs. I know the Cambridge is not the top ...
