Distributed Subwoofers - Options Duke,Thanks for the pointer.I"ll check out the link, but...How's this for irony?I commissioned an archtop from Ryan Thorell this past January and it's due to arrive in the fall. Kind of a small world, huh?MartyPS I want to learn more about the app...
New Tom Petty You know what - My apologies to all. Specifically Bill. I'll feil (sorry!) this one under: Agree to Disagree.Marty
New Tom Petty I'm sure Bill's right. His declaration of the relative quality of this recording is unassailable based on the difference between the 7,000 recordings he cites and the 5,000 I referenced. Who could argue with that? He is clearly 2,000 more qualifie...
New Tom Petty Well, if you put it that way.....Glad to get that straightened out because I thought it was a decidedly better than the average r'n'r cd. It appears that I sorely needed to be disabused of that misperception. It being based on my piddling 5,000 or...
New Tom Petty Dread,I think that was the point. It's kind of a stylistic survey of the late '60s. I like it quite a bit, but I understand your take on it, too.MartyRwwear - Upon closer examination, it turns out that I was actually given a copy of the blu-ray, n...
New Tom Petty Far above "average" in my book, especially for rock n roll. As Shodome notes, it was recorded live in the studio - so it's no surprise that it's not flashy. But, this sounds much more convincing to me than the "average" r'n'r recording. OTOH, I'd ...
Tube Audio Design HIbachi-II amps with Maggie 1.6? I can't speak specifically to the Hibachi 2s or the 1.6s, but the original TAD Hibachis work very well with the MMGs. And these amps will -IIRC- put out close to 300 wpc @ 4 ohms.BTW - These are SS amps. Old school class A/B, but definitely ss.Marty
Amp for Sonus Faber Cremona - old model I have Cremonas in my living room. They have seen:ARC LS-25 w/ARC VT130SE (hi-power tube), Odyssey Stratos monos (hi-power SS), Prima Luna 7 monos (mid power tube). Also Bel Canto 300i integrated (hi power class D SS) and Pathos Classic One integra...
Behold- Digital crossover I use both DRC and passive treatments, as well as subwoofers placed to minimze 1/4 wave effects. Lose the DRC and there is NO WAY to optimize FR below 100hz - at least in this room.Marty
Got $1000...how should I spend it? Tvad,I haven't been in the market for quite a while, but I suspect that $1K doesn't buy the drugs and hookers that it used to. Beer, lots of beer, might be better advice on the OP's budget.MartyPS The Magnepan MMG @ $600, a used amp w/enough juice...
What percentage of audiophiles use a sub ? BTW, Jax,You asked about room position and the 80hz suckout. My understanding is that this response dip is usually due to 1/4 wave cancellation and is a function of the speakers' distance from adjacent walls. Subs can be placed flush to the wall w...
What percentage of audiophiles use a sub ? Jax,I had a similar situation. First I added 2 bassbusters. This had the effect of lowering the output in the 1/2 octave above your suckout. IME, part of the suckout is real and part is actually a function of the hump that often occurs just above ...
What percentage of audiophiles use a sub ? Mapman's #2 appropriately addresses Lear's comment. The biggest impact of my subs - BY FAR - is the peak/dip between 70hz and 120hz. I use 2 DRC subs and bassbusters and the measured response of my sytem in this range went from +/-14db to +/- app ...
audio research ls25 mk1 volume issue With the highest gain setting selected, I'm always between 12:00 and 3:00 (LOUD!). LS25-> VT130SE -> Ohm 100+sub or Maggie SMG+sub or Verity Parsifal Encore. Just a somewhat back-ended attenuation scheme on this pre.Marty
New Tom Petty A friend of mine is the senior artist relations/promo guy at Reprise. He's been raving about the SQ of the Mojo DVD and he brought me a copy at yesterday's 4th of July celebration. (He also said that Petty is closing on N. Young as the most SQ obs... |
