Need your comments on Rythmik subs and others
The Rythmik 12" subs (I own a pair) are very, very good for music. Some models from SVS, JL, and a few others probably outperform them <30hz (if you believe test results), but there's little to no music there. The variable "Q" is a great featur...
Great songs and artists who virtually own them?
Thanks for the reference, I'll check it out. BTW, I wish anyone who tries to play this song the very best of luck. I could never master the rhythm line (much less both parts) so I gave up a loooong time ago.MartyPS The version on the 2006 Live at ...
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
Zen,I'm a big Clapton fan and his influence can be clearly heard in many who followed him. Some very prominent players like Carlos Santana and Mark Knopfler (when he's not fingerpicking) might even qualify as "followers". But Hendrix?IMHO, Clapton...

Ballan,I like your list, but was wondering about the "Live '97" reference on Big Love. It's one of my absolute favorite songs/guitar performances, but I'm not sure that I know this vesion. Album?TIA,Marty
"NEWEST'" Favorite album
"Tin Can Trust", from Los Lobos - IMHO, their best in many years.Gasm, thanks for the heads up on Mitch Easter. I had no idea he was still at it. It's also good to see enthusiasm for Gabriel's latest. I'll have to check that one out, too.Marty
Audyssey powered components
Kal,Proprietary really meant "not Audyssey" in this context. I gather that it's a straight 5 band PEq and, from your earlier comments, that I'd use the readout from the SMS to optimize the settings on that Peq.It's an interesting idea. I take it t...

thanx allKal, is Classe's correction system proprietary? If so, any comparison to Audyssey would be welcome. I like the idea of transferring curves, but not sure how you keep bass curve & x- over settings while going to full range correctionmarty
Velodyne DD12 or DD15
I think there's lots of good advice here. If you don't have room correction in your system, focus on that first. It's included in the Velo DD series, but -as dbphd noted - also available separately in the Velodyne SMS-1. You can also get similar b...

Audyssey powered components
Bob,The Audyssey box is available at $2500 rca or $5000 xlr - although there are spec differences between the two that extend beyond connectivity. The Audyssey set-up kit is (technically) available only to installers (although my dealer was willing...

A major disconnect between the audiophile magazine
I think that there's been real advances in sound reproduction technology over the last decade, but it's primarily been in DSP (specifically room correction) software. IMHO, it works and the improvement is quite audible. However, this community oft...
Tubelike SS Power amp
I've used TAD Hibachi SS monos with Ohm 100s and found that they mate nicely. There is a touch of extra warmth from the TADs that flatters my Ohms, which -IMHO- can be the SLIGHTEST bit lean sounding (ala Quads). When I added subs to the equation,...
SS amps for merlin vsm
As mentioned above, I've used the TAD (ss) Hibachi monos with great results.Marty
Best Rock Album in 2010
Bongo,I'll second Tin Can Trust. IMHO, it's the best thing the Lobos have done in a long, long time.
