Anyone Going to the Pacific Audio Fest I am going and meeting up with a couple of friends. Really looking forward to it, as it will be the first audio show I've attended.
300B Advice Before you spend a lot of money on the higher priced 300B options I suggest you read everything you can find about the various options. There are so many kinds of 300B tubes for sale at the present that it can be bewildering. The JJ tubes don't g...
Grant Fidelity Treasure Globe 6SN7 SE @pinwa Sorry for that. My preamp is a Supratek Cortese. Note that I did not say that different tubes don't have a different sound. I think they do. Hence my preference for KenRad VT231s. Or red-base 5682s. I have enough tubes that I've always been...
Grant Fidelity Treasure Globe 6SN7 SE I do not have any experience with these tubes. However, I have been interested in new production 6SN7 tubes for about three years, dating from when I purchased my tube preamp. When I first started tube-rolling in my preamp almost everything I rea...
Linlai E 6sn7 tubes I've been watching thread with interest. I wonder if those of you who've purchased these tubes can address a few questions. As far as I can tell, only Grant Fidelity is selling tubes in two ranges - the "top 10% ultra low noise" and the "factory...
Preamp Deal of the Century A little less than a year from now this thread will qualify as an adult. Amazing. Over 20 years old and this thread is still relevant. And Supratek is still producing "the Preamp deal of the Century". Love my Supratek!
Ortofon SPU Royal G Mk II is wonderful Replicant
Linlai E 6sn7 tubes @ram18 My counsel is to let the JJ tubes burn in for a while. Based on the information you've shared about your system I think it is too early to attribute any specific aspects of the sound to the JJ tubes. There are so many aspects of the sys...
Koetsu Urushi @route30 Do a search on Instagram for Groovetickler. He is an experienced, reliable rebuilder and can assess your cartridge and perform any repairs that are needed. Take a look at the many, many, many posts he has on instagram.
Don Sachs DS2 Preamp - too good to be true? @lous I like what you wrote and agree very strongly. @slazechko Try a search around here somewhere for a thread titled something like "Don Sachs vs. Supratek - Which way to go". In that thread I was discussing my thoughts that were running righ...
SET suggestions up to $3k (used) Don't know the size of your listening room or your preferred listening level. I'm thinking you're on the right track in thinking 8 watts. I drive 93dB efficient JBL monitors with my ~7 watts of SET 300B power and really enjoy it. I think you're i...
Preamp Deal of the Century I humbly suggest you take a close look at how all your cables are dressed. Where they cross, where they parallel each other, how they are seated in the rca inputs & outputs. That has always been the key to getting my system hum-free.
Can a Amp be "timeless" and compete with todays amps? @atmasphere Your participation and patience on this Forum is something for which I am truly grateful. Comments from you are always illuminating and helpful. Thank you.
Decided to try a SPU cartridge @kennyc what turntable are you going to put the SPU on? Is it a VPI? Sounds like you’ve kinda gone off the deep end picking up the various flavors of SPU. 😉 Plus that FR7... Should be fun experimenting with them all. Also, I’m a little fuzzy wh...
Elekit TU-8600S. Best 300B’s? Excellent question. I'll keep my eye on this thread. However, I encourage you to put the idea of tube-rolling your amp out of your mind for a while. Enjoy that sumbitch the way it is, 'cause it's gonna be awesome. And constantly obsessing about w... |
