Help with Cable selection
Just swapped out some Anti Cable level 3 reference speaker cable with the Shunyata Research Black Mamba. Like them both very much but prefer the Shunyata: more detail, larger and deeper soundstage, richer sounding IMHO. Will continue to use the An...
Forward or laid back
Mark Twain: it ain't what you don't know that gets you in trouble, it's what you know for certain which turns out not to be true.
Do 180g vinyls sound better or is it a myth ?
Whatever weight vinyl you choose to listen to, I believe it is essential to clean it before ever setting it on your platter.  Even a new record needs to be cleaned with a good record washer.  After that, good storage is important as well, anti sta...
Suggest affordable cable options
I too own a Halo A21 in one of my systems and love it.  Anticables work, I run AC speaker cable in two systems and some of their IC's as well.  I have a mish-mash of cable, some Shunyata, some Jungson, some JW Audio.  The Shunyata is best and can ...
WARNING - USE UPS FOR SHIPPING RATHER THAN FEDEX
FedEx absolutely destroyed a pair of $3000 loudspeakers, beyond belief destruction, then tried to settle for $1200 despite our insured and provable value of $3000.   Only after we threatened to create a website: www.howfedexdestroyedourproduct.com...
Considering Wilson or Sonus Faber floor standing over my Rockport monitors & Wisdom Sub
I've listened to the SF Olympica iii's with a Halo A21 and also with mono Bel Canto M1000 class D amps.  Both amps are superb with these speakers. If you crave an emotional connection with the music the SF's deliver in spades.  In addition to soun...
Sonus Faber Olympica III speaker placement
Finally got a chance to spend some quality time listening to my Olympica iii's over the weekend. What a rewarding experience!  Mine are about two feet from the rear wall, 4'-5' in from the side walls, approx 9' apart and slightly toed in.  The baf...
Preamp recommendation please..
First Sound products are 'end of search' pre amps.
Is the move up to Parasound Halo A21 worth it?
I've owned the Parasound Halo A21 twice now.  Bought one years ago, sold it, then bought another one a couple years back and it's been running in my main rig the last year +/-.  Pretty sure it's going to stay this time.  Coupled with a First Sound...
The one component that you wish you had not bought
Fritz Carbon 7 monitors.   This will really stir it up, Bob Marley style, but the stock version is just not very good.  I'm prepared for crusifixtion but the stock version at moderate or high volumes is strident, hard, unpalatable to even a margin...
Tube Watts vs. Solid State Watts - Any credence?
For what it's worth, IMHO, and I am certainly no 'techie' in this hobby, but what is 'better': tube vs. ss, 70 watts (tube OR ss) vs. 140 watts, monos vs. stereo amps, EL 34s vs. KT 88's, push pull vs. SET, U.S. made vs. European vs. Asian produce...
Looking for Help - LS27 or SLP-05
Can't go wrong with a First Sound pre amp. Four tubes, separate power supply, just a tremendous piece of kit. Coupled with a Cary ph 302 phono pre and you've got a winning combo.
Pre-Amp for Class D Amp
I just picked up a pair of used Bel Canto REF1000m monos on Agon. Plugged them into my First Sound Presence Deluxe mk III pre amplifier with the most recent two 'S' upgrades performed by Mr. Emmanuel Go of First Sound here in Renton, WA. Both piec...
Former Doge 8 preamp owners weight in
First Sound Presence Deluxe mk III. No phono but clearly a superior unit. Much quieter, more dynamic, more musical, bigger soundstage. Build quality far surpasses the Doge.
Talon khorus vs. Nola Viper iia
There is really only one Khorus speaker to own if you want to experience the full extent of what this speaker can do: the Khorus X mk II. I've owned no fewer than 7 pair of Talon speakers and until I owned this set with the CMRC crossover, it was ...
