Bi-amping MBL 101's - combining tube & ss
DavidHyman,BTW, after just noting your current system, jumping from your current tube amp/horn speaker setup to mbl is a BIG change!Horns and mbl omnis are two opposite ends of the high end spectrum in my book both in terms of how they sound and t...
Bi-amping MBL 101's - combining tube & ss
"Actually the mbls are not that hard to drive. 200 watts is plenty of power in most rooms."My understanding is the 101s are capable of prodigious bass and are designed to go into larger rooms to deliver their full potential.I would expect that a t...
Etymotic headphone surprise
Not a surprise. There are myriads of good user reviews of these out there. I almost bought a pair a while back but comfort concerns kept me from pulling the trigger. Would like to try them someday.
How important is an audio rack?
The quality of the rack will not matter much if some of the other considerations for effective isolation are not taken into consideration prior. It could be a total waste of money without looking at the big picture from an isolation and vibration ...
Is anyone thinking about building Walsh drivers?
OF course any good speaker including omnis and the newer OHMs can sound mediocre if not set up well. Personal tastes aside, the same speakers can sound absolute top notch if set up optimally.Like most things, it all depends...Also worth mentioning...
what to buy under $500 bi wire spkr cable
"maybe harshness is the wrong word. just doesnt have that fullness i want. has any body heard the audioqust rocket 44 wire. what do you think?"Well, as they used to say, that's very different!I use Audioquest cv6 wires. These might provide what yo...
Davy Jones we will miss you
Don't have any Monkees vinyl but I think a lot of their stuff sounds better than ever on some of the more recent CD releases I have heard. Not much to do with DJ, but Tapioca Tundra is one of my all time favorites.I found this about TT that might p...
what to buy under $500 bi wire spkr cable
If I understand the issue correctly, I also suspect the speaker wire is most likely not responsible.Speaker wires may sound different, better or worse but not sure I have ever heard them result in "harshness". Not likely I would speculate, but hey...
Decent Bass & Mids, compressed highs on Analog
IF your cart and stylus have inherent alignment issues, compensating may be difficult or perhaps even impossible for best results. High frequencies often suffer first/most.Phono rigs only sound best when things are in as perfect alignment as possi...
FM Radio is dead ....R.I.P
I use an old tape source switching box so I have enough inputs to hook up my old Carver Tx11b to my 2nd system. It got demoted to my second system in that it was not getting used much ever since I added internet radio and music server to my rigs. ...
Huntsville Alabama
I bought my Linn Axis table at Campbell Audio in Huntsville way back circa 1986 or so.
Davy Jones we will miss you
I love the old Monkees stuff. Lots of fine pop rock recordings there! Another iconic figure from my youth gone...
Bi-amping MBL 101's - combining tube & ss
Ok, i had a feeling i might eat some crow on this one. If there is a tube amp that can do the job would not surprise me if it were the bigger VACs.
FM Radio is dead ....R.I.P
Depends.Obviously there are as many FM stations as ever if not more, so no, FM ain't dead.Definitely losing ground to the internet rapidly though for home audio. It'll never be what it used to be for home audio again most likely.I could see a day ...
Bi-amping MBL 101's - combining tube & ss
IS there anyone who can report getting optimal results our of any mbl speaker using a tube amp in any capacity?I cannot recall having ever read of such.My understanding is that mbls classify as inherently tube unfriendly. mbl builds SS amps to run...
