break-in--bane or boon ??
Ivan, nice post on a useful subject. People may often fail to consider how the most important component of all, themselves, works when assessing cause and effect of things. The snake oil industry understands this well. Knowing one's self first is ...
Recent equipment you hated, thought overpriced
Is suspect if one rings that bell enough it can make almost anything sound good from there! 0--0\__/
the way turntable recs and evals are made here
Good question! My advice to someone who is mainly is it for the music is once you have a setup that sounds "right" stick with it until something wears out, breaks, or otherwise needs work to maintain quality.OR if you are in it largely because you ...
break-in--bane or boon ??
My feeling is that there is a combination of equipment break-in, human factors and other things as well at play when changes are noticed over time.Too complex and variable to determine anything for certain in lieu of a major research project. My ad...
Bob Carver LLC Black Beauty Review
Shame on BC, trying to make better sounding gear more affordable for the masses back in the day.I think he learned his lesson. Most of his newer stuff seems more akin to what high end audio buffs expect.
Mapleshade Golden Helix Vs Double Helix
I have not heard the Mapleshade wires but would like to. I am a fan of the minimalist approach for analog ICs in particular.

DNM Reson is another line that seems to share some similar design principles and might have some similarities soundwise I suspect.

Break in is real.No way to determine reliably. You have to let things run their course naturally. Not good news for those looking to do quick, spot reviews of gear which is just another reason why all of those must be taken with a grain of salt.
Jackie Gleason - wow
Lots of great sounding recordings pre-dating The BEatles to discover out there in all formats. Post BEatles in genres other than pop/rock and country as well! The local Goodwill store is a great place to look to sample things in an affordable manne...
Squeezebox Line Comes to an End
One other thing worth mentioning is that I think the Squeezebox/Logitech MEdia Server software itself has accumulated a lot of baggage and complexity over the years as the related technologies has evolved. I have noticed the pace of automated soft...
Squeezebox Line Comes to an End
As a 25+ year computer systems and development professional, an audiophile, and a music lover, I strongly believe that the SB system, while not perfect, is too good of a thing to go by the wayside. Someone will recognize the value and choose to in...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
I would love to hear that OHM Walsh based surround sound system! I am not a surround sound fan in general and do not do that currently, but I suspect I could live with that one!
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
The damping factor of the amplifier used is another thing that can strongly affect how the bass sounds. I like the highest damping factor possible with mine. My Bel Canto ref1000m amps have 1000 damping factor and the bass is deep, full and articu...
