Tube amps tend to soft clip which allows them to seemingly go louder with less distortion per watt than most SS. 
Can anyone explain cable risers?
Also, running wires parallel to each other and in close proximity over a distance is generally not a good idea due to em field interaction and risers are one way to avoid that.

Not something i worry about but some carpets are prone to static electricity which can only be bad. 
how much of a difference should equipment make?
My understanding is the benefits of higher damping is also speaker dependant. Some speakers are more naturally damped thmselves. Also speakers that are tube friendly also tend to have higher input impedance.
