I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
Clock, Have you evef heard a pair of good dynaudio or totem monitors off say a good 250w/ch or more class d amp or equivalent? That would be something worth comparing perhaps. Amp + speakers together might fall in your price range. Active monitors...
Aging and Treble and Income?
E, Never heard that one before. But maybe if so, it was in response to many speaker/amp combos of the day tilting tne other way? Modern gear is much better overall so maybe carts are just following suit and trying to NOT sound like a lot of digital.

Triangle genese trios maybe. You need something with a larger bass driver and similar efficiency to have a chance with the same amp.
Can a new amplifier affect speaker placement?
"With HUGE dynamics like this, I could get into this whole classical thing!"Funny how that works! Dynamics is a big part of how classical music impacts us. When it is not there as it should be, things suffer.
Cables more hype than value?
Some people have more specific expectations than others. When you are listening for a very specific sound, you are more likely to note any differences. That alone might account for it. That and/or the fact that not all wires necessarily sound very...
Int amp and Dynaudios
m2 is an integrated I thought? although one that operates more in the digital domain than traditional. i still need to hear one. definitely where things are heading (and for the better).
Aging and Treble and Income?
Once again, Here is my favorite resource for understanding what I should hear when listening. I have a framed printed copy hanging in my listening room for reference when needed. Useful in this case to identify how variations at higher frequencies...
Curious record side labeling
No doubt vinyl today is valued for its sound quality and most things revolve around that. Well, maybe album art and some enjoy physically interacting more with their recordings than digital usually permits. But from the 50-70's, when vinyl and appa...
Cables more hype than value?
There is no doubt I can hear clearly identifiable differences between using MIT terminator versus DNM Reson ICs in my main rig, in particular between amp and pre-amp. These are night and day in design and concept, so I would attribute it to that, ...
Cables more hype than value?
No doubt for me cables can and often do sound different. But not always. No rule says they will or must. I think there are probably ways to quantify how they might in electrical terms to back it up. Almarg, an experienced EE with an interest, is t...
Tube Amplifier for Thiel
Biggest, beefiest Audio Research amp you can afford. Rogue would be an alternative and might come in for less.
Int amp and Dynaudios
I use Bel Canto Class D monoblocks with mine but for an integrated I would go for a high power Class D design there as well, something like Wyred4Sound or BEl Canto. The more dynamic headroom you can provide Dynaudios, the better.
Aging and Treble and Income?
That's a very interesting question. Would not surprise me a bit if top ends are tipped up by design for various reasons in many cases, including to appeal to aging ears with $$$s to spend. There are ways to produce results like this in a system ev...
What are the differences in Tweeter materials?
.. Then there is heil type folded diaphragm type still used in some speakers like goldenear. I've always thought these to have some unique advantages though I have also observed these as somewhat delicate and not hard to fry in years past. I heard...
Curious record side labeling
Act, There is a nice article on record changers on wikipedia. It seems to indicate changers bdcame common in the us from the 50s through the seventies with bsr dominating the market. Thats consistent with my recollection growing up during that tim...
