D-SONIC SOA Class-D Core Amps. The best Class-D ?
"Interesting to note that even with the sound quality of Class D amplifier circuits continuing to improve, Rowland still chooses to design their best reference grade power amps using their very advanced switched mode power supplies with Class A/B ...
Aging and Treble and Income?
I wonder how much of the perceived tipped up treble in modern gear is due to digital sources and the way they sound on most commodity digital players, especially via earphones, compared to analog in the past? Are good modern earphones tipped up? I...
D-SONIC SOA Class-D Core Amps. The best Class-D ?
I'd be curious to know what "mods" Roland and others do with Pascal amps. With Icepower, the "mods" make all the difference. I would expect newer generation Class D modules to be much better out of the box to start, at least on paper.
Choosing a Floorstander by Footprint Size
KIXO, ANOPTION FOR THE OHMS IS OFTEN REFURBS FROM OHM THAT USE THE OLDER PYRAMIDAL SHAPED CABINETS THAT ARE WIDER AND HEAVIER ON THE BOTTOM RATHER THAN BRAND NEW VERTICAL CABINETS. THESE USUALLY COME IN FOR LESS THAN NEW AS WELL. BOTH MY PAIR USE ...
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
You can "really rock!!" a lot better than most with an 80 watt tube amp and very large and efficient (probably also very expensive) speakers, but to really rock, with most normal sized, less efficient speakers, you need to throw the kitchen sink a...
Aging and Treble and Income?
Sarcher has a good point and I would agree. Both my Triangle and Dynaudio monitors are very revealing up top and can go from lovely top end with the right setup to meh easily with the wrong setup around them. It need not cost a fortune, just be do...
EMI w/ computer, peri-HD and DAC so close 2 amps
Use a network player like Sonos with wireless Wifi network connection to help isolate computers/music servers from audio gear. Also some power conditioning for the audio gear save power amp is also a good idea.
Aging and Treble and Income?
Sibilance is a naturally occurring thing and common in many good recordings of various instruments, including human voice. Digital recordings may emphasize it unpleasantly, but the format is not the source. Its usually in the recording just waitin...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"but all I can think about is how good the 2000s sounded with those 500 watters."Bond, I fear you have crossed into the dark side and there is no turning back... :^)
Can a new amplifier affect speaker placement?
I doubt the M2 is designed to take an input from an external analog pre-amp and would think twice about even trying that unless absolutely sure.FOster, how are you liking the M2? WOuld love to hear that on my OHMs someday.
Cables more hype than value?
No doubt high end audio vendors do love to make mountains out of mole hills sometimes.I remember the days when we just sold customers buying good systems 12 gauge speaker wire and called it a day. Then came "Monster" cables. Scary! Then the floodg...
Aging and Treble and Income?
The Greene article is very good!It always helps to consider aspects of audio "perspective", ie what is heard differently at different locations relative to the source, both in a recording, to the extent possible based on any recording notes and wh...
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
Adding subs also a very sound option!
I wanna rock -- with monitors on stands
"The Legacy audio Studio HD is 93db efficient."Have not heard these particular Legacy speakers, but at least on paper, these might be worth consideration as a result of same bass driver size and higher efficiency. Might not go quite as low though ...
Aging and Treble and Income?
Albert,You should give a listen to something like These, just to hear something completely different at a minimum. If the highly etched tonality that mbl or GP seem to deliver does not grab you as I seem to recall, these just might. Really good omn...
