Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
I've heard a folded ribbon/heil type tweeter that looks like the one in those in a pair of Goldenear Aon speakers recently. THose were very impressive with a very smooth and somewhat polite top end compared to say the native OHM X00 series three l...
Good dac to reproduce soprano vocals?
I'm not sure CD format is a barrier to good female vocals.I can vouch that mhdt Constantine or Paradisea tube dac possibly with a minor tube upgrade like NOS TUng Sol can do them well if teh system overall is up to the task.
Lore vs Vandersteen ICi vs Ohm Walsh Talls
If it is the Red Dragon Class D amp, 250 w/ch, that should be a very good match to bring out the best in the OHMs. I use 500 w/ch Class D amps with mine.Should work well with Vandy as well I would think. OHM and Vandy are different designs, though...
confused about Bel Canto Products
goldprint got it right from what I have read.
When a Reviewer "likes" something
IT depends on the reviewer. A lot is based on trust. If a reviewer has a good track record over time, it means something. The product being reviewed is likely viable or competitive at a minimum. Whether it would work best for you or not or if you ...
Good dac to reproduce soprano vocals?
Any decent DAC should be up to the task. One thing I have found does particularly well with vocals in my system is DNM Reson ICs from DAC to pre-amp (and from pre to power amp as well if applicable). I can easily understand most all vocals in any ...
Why are we going 300 or more directions?
"You've traded off noise and hum protection to gain in capacitance and impedance. "Actually, I did have noise/hum issues from external EM fields with low level phono step up transformer device itself. I put that device (with DNM ICs running from i...
Listener fatigue: what does it really mean?
Mihorn, That's a unique way of breaking things down that I had not heard or thought of before applied to home audio. I have some background in geology (though it s been awhile) and the concept of P and S waves as they relate to seismic waves rings...
Amp suggestions for $1000
Well, if you want to experiment, I would think a decent used tube amp for the DeCapo's is what I would look for. Not sure what one might find for $1000, but Jolida, Rogue, PrimaLuna, or Decware or something along those lines might fly.Ot try an ex...
Lottery Winner would buy what kind of Stereo Gear
Would have to buy a house and room to put it in first, then see. I would start out with what I have but definitely be curious about how I might improve if money is not an object. I would not just blindly go and spend another 10s of thousands or mo...
Why are we going 300 or more directions?
Jimmy/Rower, can either of you explain to me why the fairly unique minimalist designed DNM Reson analog stereo phono plug ICs that I use and like in so many ways sound as clean coherent and lively as they do? They essentially look like old style 3...
Why are we going 300 or more directions?
2 gurus -> 2 directions. A limited sample no doubt but extrapolate anyway and why there might be 300 becomes clear. And that only includes people who might actually know something about this being in scope.Just stick some flying saucers on the w...
Listening fatigue
Agree that clipping is a likely significant factor with most any SS amp of that power rating and most better modern smaller speakers.
Bryan Adams nice
Bryan Adams is a very talented guy and gets an undeserved bum rap by many IMHO. Check out his MTV Unplugged recording! Sterling sound and performances. The version of "Summer of '69" on there is outstanding, much better than original for me and th...
Thump noise on the lead in on warped LPs
Turntables are tricky things to get set up optimally. Warped records are always a problem, but more so with some setups than others. Others might correct me, but if you hear the thump noise frequently regularly even with just modestly warping in t...
