Why not horns?
Given his influence, still sounds like horn designs were largely ignored by HP back in his day, and that may be one (not the only reason) that horn speakers do not get as much attention today (or over the years since their heyday) as they might de...
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
I agree 100% with Atmasphere on this one. There are many ways to accomplish what is needed for metal/rock and if done right it will accommodate all other genres equally well.Being able to handle rock/metal as well as all other genres well at appro...
The State of Jazz
Can't think of many recent pop hits that I would classify as Jazz.Popularity of Jazz overall has seemed to be on the decline for a number of years now.I suppose its all relative....
Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a
MMGs are very good for microdynamics/transients but not for macrodynamics/"slam", ie dynamics you can feel as well as hear.I would expect significant sound differences between Magnepan in general and Ls3/5a or any similar British monitor. You might...
Audioengine w3
I am a Squeezebox user with two TOuches and a Radio, music server. IT looks like a pretty smart and useful solution to try if the goal is just to get (CD quality) music from computer to stereo cost effectively and something I would be interested i...
Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a
MMGs are very good set up well and within their limits and not very expensive, so always worth consideration for something different from most box speakers. I would keep a pair around myself if I had the room.
The State of Jazz
Like it or not, Diana Krall is generally categorized as a jazz artist and is one of the most popular and best selling as well I believe, so its hard to argue that she has nothing to do with the state of jazz.Jazz light is still Jazz. SO what happe...
Frequencies addresses by power cords?
Kr4's answer is probably the only correct one possible in the US anyway.Power cord will transmit the ac electric signal at that frequency and then the its the rest of the gear's job to modulate it into frequencies representing the sound.Power cord...
Can I get a
Good point by Gslone. It would probably be a good idea to know what he will like best up front to the extent possible without ruining any surprise. Unless you are confident already that you know what he will like, rather than what you think he dese...
Femto clocks ,every unit should have one
So far, there is only 1 dac that shows up prominently in a Google search that uses the Femto clock. That one has received some good reviews but it is not cheap, in the 4-5K range.Faster more accurate clocks in DACs that might still come in under s...
Can I get a
Are you going for 2 channel or surround sound/home theater? For music only going 2 channel will get you further for the buck. You'd want a 2 channel integrated amp with minimum 2 analog line level inputs for CD and tape and 1 phono input + perhaps 1...
The State of Jazz
Don't even ask how many cover versions of Round Midnight I have in my collection. I'm guessing a few dozen. And each has something unique to offer and enjoy.Vocal jazz and of covers in particular get a lot of airtime in my system. I often queue up...
If I like Gorecki'S Symphony 3 I'll like.....?
Mahler Symphonies 2,3,4 or 8.
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
I do not agree that rock/metal speakers and "audiophile" speakers are necessarily two different breeds, at least from a technical perspective.I would agree that the personal musical tastes and preferences of rock/metal lovers and the stereotypical...
The State of Jazz
Standards (ie song standards) serve a purpose for jazz and other musicians I would think, but few originate in the world of Jazz anymore. The purpose is to have a well known or "standard" point of reference for different artist's to tackle and do t...
