Is a tube phono better than ss? Easy answer: it all depends (on too many things to give a single answer conclusively in general).Neither has the market cornered on delivering best results case by case. That's why both are still around and have substantial followings. Like Honda ...
Thiel death do we part . . . BLue point cart is one of the few pieces I have owned over the years that in retrospect I would label as clearly "midfi", ie limited potential to help deliver top notch sound.I owned BLue Point and not the "special" which is reputed to be better, ...
New Thiel Speakers - Post Jim Thiel Era Companies have to make a profit. Thiel will do that by selling new speakers. The plain fact is they will do whatever they decide is best to do that. Companies need to innovate usually to remain relevant but they would be foolish to trash the Thiel...
Thiel death do we part . . . Ditch the blue point special. Try a denon dl103r.I ran a blue point for years, it is likely a big limiting factor as you describe.

Need a warm amp for bright speakers NAD will do the trick and should not cost a lot to try especially if you go used/vintage.
best recorded 78rpm to look for, also cartridge... 78s are a lot of fun and most all can be an interesting sonic treat albeit of a much different flavor than most recordings since.I use an old Admiral multi speed player with cert cart and 78 needle to record old 78s to digital on my music server. ...

Vandy or Maggy? No doubt higher quality drivers made under tight tolerance and high quality standards will get you further, pound per pound, wherever they happen to be made. They will also tend to cost a tad more accordingly. That's a big reason I consider Dynaud...

Vandy or Maggy? Like Dynaudio, hard to go wrong with Totem I would say. |
