Why not horns? "Mapman, I remember there was an Ohm model that got good reviews back in the early 80's in Stereophile and maybe TAS too."I've seen Stereophile reviews of the first and second generation Walsh 5s. Stereophile review of gen 1 directly influenced ge...
Most educational audition you ever had? All mbl demo at United Home Audio in MD a few years back using CD, phono and reference RTR recordings, and in a showroom suited to bring out the best. This system in general was all time home audio imaging and soundstage champ I have heard and all ...
Why not horns? Strong stuff in that link but hard to shoot down totally. The audio magazines really don't go about their things any different than any other publication with a focus on selling stuff. Science and technology is boring. Fantasy and soap boxes are mu...
Audioengine w3 D2 looks nicer and has digital optical output that should work with most DACs. I've never used SB Touch DAC but most think it to be pretty solid if not quite absolute top notch.Nice to know about these. Thanks.
New Pangea Audio AC-14 XL Power Cord The Pangea power cords look like a nice value for a "premium" power cord.I have some wear with oover separation near the connection on my current DAC cord and am planning to replace with a Pangea to give that a try.
Can I get a Its a lot safer buying things like this for people who will like it but also have no prior opinions or biases going in than for one who might, like a professional musician. Definitely risky I would say.I give audio things to relatives and friends ...

Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a Yup.Maybe not as sharp an outline (in terms of imaging and focus as opposed to speed and timing) with planars as some others, but enough mixed in with the rest to fit the bill quite well most likely. And the price is right and not hard to resell if...
The State of Jazz Wait a minute are we talking about1) the state of teh art as in what is happening in the art, or 2) state of the art as in who/what is setting the highest standards for others to surpass artistically?Diana Krall is clearly significant in context o...

Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a "But, I'm a little confused...Mapman says MMG are good on transients and attack, but Polarin says they are not great for rock because they lack weight and dynamics and Rpfef says they have greater impact (than the LS3).How do I tie these opinions ...

KEF LS50 Need Help I would have expected ls50 + sub set up well to be competitive with most anything myself. That would be assuming subs and mains levels are well integrated. That setup and integration is often tricky to get right case by case whenever a sub is invol...
Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a Yes, its true that mmg probably offer a lot more unique value with acoustic music forms than say pop/rock or other electronic forms. FOr that, I would say they are less likely to stand out.Have not heard those particular monitors, but I have read ...
Maggie MMG versus Ls3/5a Maggies/planars are top notch on transients I would say with most any amp and "attack" ie the leading edge of a transient in particular. Some box speakers are as well, but many are not, and amplifier used is a bigger factor here as well I think. "M... |
