Your favourite recording label? "Mercury, Living Presence. No label ever did it better."I would tend to agree. I can think of other good ones, but none better overall.Dorian is a more modern but now defunct CD label worth mentioning in same breath as MLP.I like sound quality of ...
Your most disappointing purchase or audition? "I have had junk audio in my life time that is more reliable than alot of today's High- End audio."I think there is some truth to that. Was it truly junk then if at least reliable?Reliability is an often overlooked attribute when it comes to the qu...
Your favourite recording label? Threads like this are useful. As I get older, I find I tend to have less allegiance to individual acts and look for ways to find new music/performances I might like. One way is to put ones trust in certain labels/brands and go from there.
Another CD-Player vs. PC question: As a whole, CD quality is much better since mid 90's. I have read of various technical factors since then that account for this and observe this in practice as well.I may not like how all modern CDs are mastered and put together by the producers, ...
Anyone into cassettes? Mid-late 70's AIWA cassette decks were very good performers with good build quality and looked great. The AD6550 I had specifically was gorgeous and stacked up quite well against Tandberg in a/b tests back then. I was a poo college student and cou...
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies? " Suggestions that the "inside" driver is far from the original concept and is actually quite "cheap" nowadays and poorly made.""Cheap" and "poorly" made comments have no basis other than audiophile snobbery. Every OHm Walsh I have ever owned goes...
Speaker grills I build and tune my systems to sound right with grills on. Grills stay on for both aesthetic and protective reasons. Various grill designs will inevitably attenuate various frequencies, especially the higher ones to some degree, but between initia...
Your most disappointing purchase or audition? "you would think at these prices, High- end Audio would be more reliable"I would expect that, not just think it.
High Fidelity Cables CT-1designed by Rick Schultz Hi Albert,I had not checked my agon inbox in awhile, but it is there. I did not see any actual corresponding email sent to my provider, where I check daily, like in past. I might have just missed it. I did get it though and responded.
Anyone into cassettes? I have a 90's vintage Yahama cassette deck on my rig that I use on occasion. Sounds better than ever these days in that my setup is the best I have ever had as well by far.I have not recorded any new casettes since the 80's though when I dabbled w...
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies? Yes, I have if I understand the question correctly.I have found that each has very different dispersion patterns (bidirectional versus pseudo-omni) so not likely exact same configuration will work best for both.
Another CD-Player vs. PC question: "Mapman, just curious, have you had an audiogram test recently?"Yes, have you? That could be why the CDs sound bland to you. They sound fine to me, at least when played on good gear that is working properly.
Your most disappointing purchase or audition? Even God has a few disgruntled customers.....:^)
Hi Fi House liquidation I am interested in how it goes in general with so many items listed at once, including many vaguely described parts and components in some cases.Starting bid prices seem about 50% of going prices new otherwise, which is what the best used stuff ty...
Should you tune room to headphones I'm hoping for a pair of phones that might convince me to ditch all the big expensive gear once and for all, but has not happened yet, and I've heard most of the usual top contenders these days plus many a vintage classic along the way.I have 4 pa... |
