Is computer audio a bust?
AUdiolab,Might the dealers viewpoint be skewed by the fact that these traditional "audio" only devices is their bread and butter whereas one can build a very good computer audio system with a little know-how without ever having to visit those trad...
What can I improve in my audio system for better s
Honestly, for surround sound, you seem to be working with all good stuff. Not bad for two channel either. If the best 2-channel sound quality is of interest to you, you could probably do some things there for comparison.Again it all depends on wha...
High Fidelity Cables CT-1designed by Rick Schultz
These are a real bargain it seems for wire induced audio orgasms compared to the new TOTL Taralab wires. Its all relative I suppose. I'll be sticking with my modest DNM ICs and Pangea power cords for the foreseeable future though because, well, as ...
Is computer audio a bust?
If you have any PC with a decent quality optical drive, Windows Media Player can be configured to rip to lossless .wav file format very easily. THis works very well, just make sure WMP displays the tags correctly before starting the rip because ed...
Why blind listening tests are flawed
"Funny- the objectivist camp says that if you hear something but can't measure it, its not real."I would say it may or may not be real and there is no objective way to determine for certain. Maybe if teh test is done exactly the same way in a cont...
Why do digital cables sound different?
Note that the architecture used for digital streaming can be a variable in determining end results, but I find if done well a certain way, then the wire between the source and DAC seems to make little difference, as long as of good quality, and pe...
Why do digital cables sound different?
My system images and does detail very well, with detail as good as most any of the best headphone setups I hear or my phono source, essentially as best I can tell. IE no detectable issues ommissions, flaws, etc. So I am sure jitter exists and coul...
Why do digital cables sound different?
"Mapman, are you saying digital signals in a coax cable for example are harder to mess with than pure analog signals, and so theoretically the cable construction should have less impact on the resulting sound?"Not harder to mess with per se but I ...
Why do digital cables sound different?
Kijanki,You use the BEnchmark DAC which pretty much deals with any jitter issues that might exist otherwise, correct?I do not have a DAC like that to-date and am probably more affected by the variables you describe, but still whatever differences ...
Quality issues with Tekton speakers....
If the vendor offered to make an exchange to set things right, then they did the right thing given the situation.Different vendors/products view and handle grills differently. My preference is to always have them included, although I can understan...
Best Cheap Speakers - New or Old
Older OHm Walsh models can be had for teh price of many "cheap" speakers but are good all around performers capable of delivering very big sound to compete with most anything with the right amplification.
What can I improve in my audio system for better s
Also a system picture showing the physical layour would help. Often all that is needed for better sound is a better approach towards setup and dealing with room acoustics. Definitely a best practice to get that right first before changing anything.
What can I improve in my audio system for better s
You have good stuff. What aspects of the sound do you think need improving? How do you know what your target sound is or equivalently where yours is deficient? Have you heard some other system for reference? IS there any noticeable noise or distor...
Why do digital cables sound different?
"The digital cables are carrying "analog" signals."Yes, but the signals are completely different in design and play by a different set of rules.
Which Class D / gainclone for 1st row presence?
When that happens I find it may have a lot to do with room acoustics. Not sure any amp alone is prone to that?
