Would someone explain what "up sampling" means and how it can affect the sound?
Just listen to the DAC and don't worry about upsampling.  Resulting sound quality depends on much more than that alone.  Can never hurt to understand what it is though.    I have a non oversampling DAC and others that do.   They all sound lovely. ...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
" I doubt anyone can claim their stuff is neutral."I can claim anything I want.   Doesn't make it true.    How about we meet in the middle and just say some things are more neutral than others?  Then we can all move on.    i will go back to plowin...
Similar sound characteractics to MIT cables?
Your description of MIT is spot on based on the ones I’ve used. I tend to think of MIT as a kind of band aid but good for bass and taking the edge off things if needed. They have a unique sound and sound nothing like any others I’ve tried including...
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection.
My personal assessment is I find if I do not connect with what I hear the culprit is usually noise and distortion.  Sometimes its effects are so subtle  you don't know its there until gone.   But the effect is the same ie no "connection" .     Min...
Neutral electronics are a farce...
You did. But you know of course being clear only gets one so far sometimes....
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection.
Sure. If one has accurate speakers and not connecting, system is one possibility. There’s all the other usual contenders you can read about all the time on sites like this as well. Its harder to sort through than the Republican Presidential Candida...

All the world’s a photon, eh? Interesting theory.Well who would have thought there was a relationship between energy and mass before Al (Einstein not Gore). Let me know if you guys work this out and if so how it matters for my hifi. Then I just mi...
Audiophile pets and their names...
My jack Russell Terrier loves to sit and listen with me. Even loud! Animal sound effects are his favorites and get him riled followed by the baroque masters which have a calming effect. No easy trick as any JRT owner will tell you.I also have vari...

It was when I found out I could make mistakes that I knew I was on to something. ~Ornette Coleman
Speakers that are very accurate sounding but don't produce an emotional connection.
if they are accurate and no emotional connection the problem probably lies elsewhere.

Servers: Are we there yet?
If you have a music server, and a large music library, BE SURE to have a reliable backup and restore capability to go along with it.All devices die eventually including storage devices. Not if but when it happens, you need a backup to be able to r...
One entry-level IC, one really good IC.
It can vary in each case.    Try both ways and determine for yourself.  Its the only reliable way.  Pre-amp to amp should affect all input sources similarly if you have more than one whereas source to pre-amp only that source.   You have to decide...
Is New Vinyl Exempt from Loudness Wars?
I wouldn’t argue the Winehouse "Back in Black" might be considered somewhat "bright" tonally, but i would argue that if things are going well during playback, its not an issue any more than one might experience at a comparable live performance whe...
Integrated Amp Vs. Outboard DAC
I picked up a demo bel canto c5i here on agony for under $1000.    Very nice clean holographic sound and  does it all including phono and all the hifi many would ever need.
