What does Hi-Fi Even Mean anymore?
Addresses in no way?  I’d argue it addresses 80-90%.  Maybe more.
Critical subwoofer tip
Yes doing anything perfectly is always very hard but with the right sub to fit your system, a sound meter app on a smartphone and streamed white noise, doing it very well is not hard at all.If you do that versus merely doing it by ear you might be...
The guru on fuses:
Yup and notice he talks about fuses in the context of protection circuitry which is what a fuse is for. Nothing about fuses and sound quality. I recommend to take it from an expert and move on.
What does Hi-Fi Even Mean anymore?
Yes I thought that comment was spot on too. I feel like I pass that test. I recall what got me into this stuff back in the "early days of hifi" as a kid and try not to get sidetracked. But of course to each their own. It’s all good fun and enterta...
KEF LS50 Speaker Stands
I use 36" Dynaudio stands with my ls50s. I had ls50s now metas. Neither sound best firing directly at you. Check the manual. It provides guidelines on how to set up the speakers for best results. At least the meta manual does.  Ear level is probab...
How does Donald Fagen do it?
He knows what he wants and is determined to get it.
Anyone tried Benchmark cables?
I doubt one can go wrong with most any product from Benchmark. They tend to do things very well, are pretty transparent in regards to what goes into their products, and provide good value for the home audio market. Essentially a very practical foc...
Critical subwoofer tip
Agree about the measurements needed to do it right and get full value from a sub. I use a simple sound meter app and white noise for level and crossover but not enough alone for phase. Have to tune that by ear and only after the other two are dial...
Best temperature for optimum tube performance
The simple answer is no. Always provide gear adequate ventilation.   Especially tube gear and power amps.  They generate the most heat.
Critical subwoofer tip
My sub has continuous level crossover and phase adjustments. It is right next to my listening position so very easy to adjust properly. Phase matters the least of the three but still matters and makes a subtle difference on the sound. Granted it i...
Tracking modern pop recordings with very loud bass
@atmasphere What platter pad do you recommend? I always felt the issue with the Rega way back when was a thin felt pad on a glass platter.  Just a hunch.Thanks.
Tracking modern pop recordings with very loud bass
Good to see specific recommendations including table/cart combo. That with tonearm is likely the key based on my experience which is mostly with a bunch of tables from many years ago. I will keep that in mind for when time comes to replace my old ...
Gave up my SET----looking for moderate to higher power replacement options
Pretty much any good quality SS amp of any design and modest power capable of handling a varying load would be well suited to drive just a pair of satellites with bass crossed over elsewhere, Class D included.SET or OTF would not be my first choic...
Why wont speaker companies publish their measurements?
KEnjit I hate to break the news to you but trolling audiophiles is no great accomplishment. Anyone with enough time to waste who actually cares can do it.When you start you own speaker company I will look for the specs and measurements so you can ...
