system for a 12 year old
Yes, he is into music and asked for a stereo. But of course I did not require much convincing to volunteer put something together...
system for a 12 year old
As a sidenote, in putting this system together, it works out nice for me as a way to scratch the itch I've had (see related thread) for sampling the horn loaded speaker experience. In researching, I've heard some enticing things about Klipsch Fort...
system for a 12 year old
Kotta,I think your assessment is on target. The interconnects will make a big difference for this, I believe at marginal cost.I'll definitely check the QED's out and consider. I have nothing particular in mind for this in the IC department at pres...
Good, Affordable Horns?

Best/Cheapest/Easist Way To Burn CD's?
Soulgoober,I would not think it possible to assert that either computer burning or stereo component burning is categorically better or worse. The technology required to do a good job is similar in either case and I'm sure there are devices that do...
Best/Cheapest/Easist Way To Burn CD's?
Markphd,Good point. The book is still open on the longevity of recorded CDs. I haven't had problems so far, but have only been doing it for 5-6 years now."Burning" in a lossless manner to file/server storage is an interesting approach as well, but...
Beatles covers: better than originals?
MadHF,I've seen several leading BEatles cover acts including "Classical Mystery Tour" (with symphony orchestra doing the fills, wonderful!), Rain (twice), 1964 (very good, early BEatles stuff only, simple arrangements), and others. All were most e...
Beatles covers: better than originals?
Gfroman,I did see "Across the Universe". I liked the musical performances very much. The cast was very talented and put some nice different twists/edges on several songs. I would like to get the soundtrack. The story line left a bit to be desired, ...
Best/Cheapest/Easist Way To Burn CD's?
The $600 Denon unit in my system makes perfect recordings every time. I can easily recommend it. I've used Fuji and Maxell CD-Rs with it for over two years and have never had any problem getting perfect recordings.
Do any speakers image/sound-stage close to walls?
I've heard speakers that sound very good right up against or very close to the rear wall. But I've yet to find a way to put speakers directly up against a wall without losing something in regards to sound stage depth, if not imaging. Rear ported s...
Best/Cheapest/Easist Way To Burn CD's?
Having heard many recordings created with many different recorders over the years, it's silly to put down CDRs in my opinion.I've used a $600 Denon cd player/recorder for over 2 years now and can easily recommend this device without reservation as...
White Album, when's your last listen?
Just gave it a fresh listen on CD!This was the first listen since I completed my recent tweaks to my system. The results: I'm very happy camper! Everything was there and everything sounded "right". Even picked up a few new details I've never heard ...
White Album, when's your last listen?
One of the many factors that make the Beatles great is the diversity and exploratory nature of their music. No two albums sound the same, particularly in the second more artistic half of their career. The White Album is the most in interesting fro...
White Album, when's your last listen?
The Beatles, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Mozart. I might toss Tchiakovsky in as well, I suppose.Towards the less competitive, heavy metal/hard rock/grunge edge, I'd toss in Metallica, AC/DC Led Zep, and Nirvana, I suppose, but I would not put...
