Are horns and hi-eff designs becoming more popular
Well, they certainly do have a following.Horns + tubes offer a different kind of listening experience from SS and conventional box design speakers, so I personally do find some appeal there. Not necessarily better or worse..but different, that's t...
vintage turntables?
Philips 312 is the tt model # I referred to...I looked it up.God, I loved that tt! It was very unique, simple and sleek in design and didn't sound half bad either!
vintage turntables?
Vintage Thorens units were always the best as I recall. Some of the Duals were OK but not in the same league as Thorens. I still have a nice Dual 1264 in my second system...sounds good with a good phono stage. There were some vintage Micro Seikis th...
Looking for a quality all around unit
I have never actually heard one, but if I were you, I'd be considering the Musical Fidelity kW250S.I'd also be considering a Linn unit like the Classic mentioned above.
Which amp to Bi-amp my Maggie 20.1
Try it one way, then switch, then keep switching until you can decide which sounds better to you.I'm curious if there is much difference, i would expect either ice amp has the power and juice to handle either task very well. My guess is that there...
Your last speaker?
I'm done.Got to where I am (6 active pair)over the course of 30 years and a long lived association with Maggies and B&Ws prior but have heard countless brands, models and designs over the years.
has anybody heard Martinlogan w/ MIT?
I've heard Krell and Marin Logan together and think I know the sound you are searching for, highly transparent and totally detached from the speakers in a way that kind of fills the room with sound.Agreed most likely the room and/or its contents a...
How important is the speaker/room interface?
Definitely low WAF having to clean or dust all those nooks and crannies.I guess in my dreamworld that this could only occur in, I'd hire somebody to take of that aspect of it!
How important is the speaker/room interface?
Shadorne,I want that studio for my listening room !I'll have to check out a few CDs recorded in Blackbird studios!
How important is the speaker/room interface?
Kudos to Sumiko for providing a (standard) process/service for speaker placement. I'd be curious to hear how well it works when people try it.Don't many speaker manufacturers provide directions for optimal placement in their manuals? For example, ...
How important is the speaker/room interface?
"So, any thoughts as to why the speaker/room interface is not more universally considered the top priority in building a system?"That's an easy one: because you can't sell people the latest and greatest "speaker/room interface". The basics laws of...
How important is the speaker/room interface?
I forgot to mention speaker placement within a room as another key factor for optimizing sound in any particular room.I tend to like point source speakers in moderate sized to somewhat larger rooms several feet away from rear or side walls best. I...
How important is the speaker/room interface?
Yes, the room is perhaps the biggest factor, along with your ears/hearing (which biases your listening experience but you have no real control over this part) and relative listening position. If you take the room and relative listening position in...

What speakers to get? Focal or B&W
Jamesw20 is probably right that you most likely would not get the most musically from either pair of speakers with an A/V receiver.I've heard the Focal profile 918 with a $2500 Krell integrated at a local Tweeter store + the sound was fantastic, v...
