Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Know, I'm good thanks! The image sharpness was not as good on the original Walsh speakers from the 80's and not up to par with more modern designs IMHO. I owned original Walsh 2's for 25 years prior to the two pair of series 3 I own now for compari...
A/B Vinyl/Digital
Hevac1,Try adding tubes to the digital source via tube DAC and see if that helps even things out.
Best solid state amp under 1k
For $600-$700 used, I think the Musical Fidelity A3CR in my system is a contender in the high power, high current sub-category at least.
Which James Bond Theme Recording
Also the theme from "You Only Live Twice" and "All Time High" performed by Rita Coolidge from "Octopussy" are two of my favorite Bond related works.
Can digitizing vinyl match CD?
If you want oversampling, then I would store the files at the native resolution because this is the most compact form to store in without loss, and then rely on a good oversampling DAC to do the oversampling constructively during playback.
Who's your guitar daddy now?
My best guitar daddy experience live recently was seeing Dick Dale live in a very intimate venue and being right up front.Despite his age qualifying as a guitar great grandaddy even, he was energized, spontaneous and seemed geneuinely happy to be ...
Who's your guitar daddy now?
Onhwy61,You are right, BUT, Kobe has to face other people trying to stop him who are also good every game. Musicians do not have others being paid also to impede what they do. Its mostly up to them. The golf analogy might be a little better one. Bu...
Audio Noise from my step up/down transformer
DO you hear it the same with any source switched to on the integrated, for example phono (if present) versus aux or CD?See if physically moving the transformer further or closer to the integrated causes a change in the noise level at a particular ...
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
"It could be the tubes in the MD."That could do it if the other sources are tube deprived.Radios were raised on tubes. Tubes were on the decline as vinyl became more popular. They were largely forgotten by the time CDs came around. Now they are on ...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
"I just hope no one starts invoking pop quantum mechanics as the next obvious facile mantra that just explains-it-all"See "Machina Dynamica" for applications of that theory.
“Real” bass vs. “Boom” — how do you know which?
Hey Rebbe,Lots of good thing recommended here to try. Bottom line is you need a frame of reference for what good bass is. Listening live (to a well produced performance) and listening on good headphones if you have them, where room acoustics are t...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
"What a shame that all mechanical hair movement in the cochlea is converted to nerve impulses in order to be sent to the brain (i.e. an analog to digital conversion, with individual nerves either firing or not)."It is very high resolution digital ...
How is it ? that a tuner smokes the table ???
Kirkus,Thanks for that! I think you hit it. Talented engineers on the back end that care make all the difference in radio. But, if one's radio sound BETTER than ones's phono or digital, then that is probably a good indicator that a few tweaks to th...
Who's your guitar daddy now?
I don't think Clapton is necessarily overrated, because he is without doubt quite good, but more I think he just gets a lot more love from the media and masses in general than many other equally gifted and lesser known players.
“Real” bass vs. “Boom” — how do you know which?
"As you might know the same speakers driven by a different amp can affect the bass like you wouldn't believe."Yes indeed. for the larger OHMs in particular, that increasingly means a higher current, higher efficiency amp that mostly doubles rated ...
