dedicated cd player or dvd-cd
My Marantz DVD player does pretty well. Running it 2 -channel via external stereo tube DAC drastically changes the sound in a way that will appeal more to tube lovers. For multi-channel A/V however, the tube DAC I am using will not support other d...
Best Cd Player under $4000?
It may not be as sexy looking as some other pieces, but I still do not think it is the CD player in of itself. When I heard it on a well matched properly set up system, it did fantastically in regards to soundstage and muscle/impact.You might perh...
History on ohm A's and F's.
Dale did chirp in on this thread earlier regarding his designs and German Physiks specifically and his comments are worth repeating here. Though their Walsh driver designs all vary, I suspect what he says regarding how each are similarly voice coi...

Low output moving coil cartridge
I'm using a similar low output MC cart (Denon 103R) with an ARC sp16. I tested without one at first but a step up device was required to get to proper levels with low background noise with the sp16.

YEs, I'd really love to understand the pistonic/wave bending thing in more detail in regards to the CLS Walsh driver.OHM CLS must be doing some wave bending in the mid range and up, though clearly not at the very top end where the super tweet work...
History on ohm A's and F's.
Lewis,There is a transition from wave bending at higher frequencies to pistonic at lower, I believe. Not sure I'd call it a "crossover" necessarily. Not sure to what extent that transition is audible or discernible to the human ear. Maybe others m...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"Does anyone know if the prices will go up for the next version of the 100? (I hope not.)"I think I read on the web site that they will as they roll out the revamped drivers.I also did a stint at a Lafayette store in Pennsylvania in 1978 just prio...
New vinyl's noisy little secret
Yesterday, I happened to play the dirtiest record ever that looked clean to me on inspection, an old 60's orcjestral recording on COlumbia Masterworks I picked up for 25 cents.I cleaned it as I usually do but shortly after playing it it started so...

1000s?Are those the latest and greatest 100s? I hadn't seen that these were available yet.
Best Cd Player under $4000?
I've heard that player and I don't think it is your problem as described.
volume vs presence
Try adding a good powered sub.

Marty, that sounds like a fair accounting. Also there were many one off dealers that were not part of a larger chain. I sold to a lot of college kids with limited budgets at Tech HiFi. Their choices were often either just refurbs from Tech HiFi or...

Bondman,TEch Hifi's big competitor I recall in the NYC metro area was Crazy Eddies. Remember them?
New vinyl's noisy little secret
Well, ironically, the local music store had a used record/cd sale today. I added about 40 new records across various genres all in very good/excellent shape at 4/1.00 or about the price of a gumball each. I also bought 1 new CD that cost more than...
