Your Top 5 Favorite Power Ballads
I'll add "Whats Going On" by 4 Non Blondes
how far do you sit from your speakers?
I have a few smaller rooms and one larger one. My preference is the larger room where I can sit a good bit back and take things in rather than being more immersed in the sound closer up.
Which songs/albums take you back to college?
"It looks like our Mozart is going to be the Beatles."I'd have to agree. And our Bachs, Handels, etc. are the various American rhythm and blues and rockabilly artists that preceded and inspired them.
Can even a Novice hear differences in Sound Qualit
Yes, but that alone doesn't mean that they care enough or can afford to drop 10s of thousands of dollars into a SOTA audio system.Lets be real, this stuff is a luxury, not a commodity. You have to be able to hear, then care, then pay.Nice rant on ...
Elvis - 30 Years Ago Today, RIP
FWIW,Being the audio kook that I am, at Graceland, I tried to identify the components in Elvis's audio systems.I saw two systems, 1 in his "TV" room and one in the lounge in the racquetball building which I think is where he was found dead. Not sur...
Which songs/albums take you back to college?
High school for me but "Grand Illusion" is actually quite a good solid rocking album end-to-end by Styx. "Miss America" is one of my favorite rockers from the 70s and has a simple but killer guitar riff that I love to this day.The rest of their su...

The Cars first album was very big my sophomore year.
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
I'd agree that the OHMs are at their unique lifelike best at more lifelike listening volumes. They can do well at low volumes, but will not differentiate themselves from most other good speakers that way.Planars and electrostats like Maggies excel...
Elvis - 30 Years Ago Today, RIP
I picked up the 3-CD Sun 50th anniversary box set at Sun Studio's shop while there.Lots of eye opening nicely remastered performances there that register strongly with their rawness and energy. "The Killer" is well represented, as are many lesser ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
"How can the Ohm Walsh 5000 match such a wide range of room sizes?"4 separate 3-way level adjustments including a low bass level adjustment that you set to small, medium or large depending on room size. "Can you play the Ohm's at lower sound level...
Elvis - 30 Years Ago Today, RIP
Hi Chasmal. My wife is the Elvis fan. She just likes him I think more so than his music. He was apparently a very charismatic person. To me, his early recordings were good and I like acouple of his later 60's hits. He also did some very good gospel ...
Elvis - 30 Years Ago Today, RIP
32 years ago now as of yesterday. We did a jaunt to Memphis this year and visited Graceland as well as the Sun Studio, (and the Peabody Ducks). It was a very enjoyable trip. Visiting Sun studio was the highlight for me, but I did enjoy Graceland as ...
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
Once a record is clean, an inexpensive carbon fiber brush for removing loose dust is generally all that is needed to keep it clean.
Can You Live With Crackling & Popping Noise?
Welcome to the real world of vinyl playback!Record noise is par for the course with many records. To keep it to the minimum, get a good record cleaning machine or check other threads here for some manual cleaning techniques that can work very well...
What piece of music can you play over & over?
Ehaller,You are referring to Stationary Traveler I assume?YEs, it is a true jewel. In hindsight, at least, in the 70's, Camel quietly helped set the bar for progressive rock. This finely executed and relatively accessible concept album from 1984 is...
