High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
Al,cThanks for the details.I can say with confidence that the sp16 sounds very balanced, natural and lively with the MF a3CR I'm using (31K input impedance spec). There is a larger (>200 w/ch)MF A308CR amp up for sale by a local Agoner. I think ...
Lost - Your combined experience required
I'm guessing out of the gate that 50-60 watts from an integrated may be underpowered in terms of current delivery for those speakers which I'm reading like power/juice as surprisingly do many a smaller quality monitor speaker that appear easy to d...

"I don't know why Mapman is reluctant to consider ARC recommendations "Newbee, what gave you that idea? I'm not. I would assume ARC to be a most reliable source for recommendations regarding their equipment given their considerable history, experi...
Are there any albums you consider perfect?
Tull's first album "This Was" is the closest to perfect IMHO, but Aqualung might qualify also."A Salty Dog" and "Broken Barricades" by Procol Harum are worth consideration as perfect also. Also I'd have no qualms nominating "Magician's Birthday" - ...
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
This is primarily for the OHM 5s which have a somewhat difficult load, are only 87db efficient and the more juice, the merrier.Power requirement: 250w/ch minimum doubling into 4, high current.I'd like to stay under $2500 if possible for now. Also, ...

Tvad,Any SS Amp recommendations given all this?
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
My strategy will be to play it safe and go with a high current SS amp that doubles output into 4 and eve 2 ohms as much as possible and has a higher input impedance, along the lines of those I mention above. That will optimize electronic interface...
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
It does make sense to me optimize the electronic interface between components in a system to whatever extent possible, all other factors aside, to maximize inherent performance. The input impedance of my current Musical Fidelity A3CR amp is ~31K.I'...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
YEs, the consensus also seems to be that the higher ratio the better for optimal interfacing between amp and pre (sounds kinky), so who knows where a 10:1 minimum comes from?

Rebbe,After some investigation, the ARC sp16 I use is also a candidate for you at least technically, though the cost may be a tad higher. Here are the specs:260 ohms Single Ended main; 20K ohms minimum (amplifier input) load and 1000 pF maximum cap...
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
Well, that's very different then.ARC's specs are the most detailed I've seen so far then in this regard, and my original question is a moot issue then I suppose..
Are there any albums you consider perfect?
""Emerson, Lake & Palmer" does not have a lighter cut.""Lucky Man"Very good + a hit, but light/commercial by ELP standards.
High Current SS amps with input impedance = 200K
NEwbee, you may be right. Here are the specs from the arc site:OUTPUT IMPEDANCE: 260 ohms Single Ended main; 20K ohms minimum load and 1000 pF maximum capacitance. Outputs (3): 2 main, 1 record (Single Ended RCA connectors). I'm not sure how to int...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
So for example, my case, with the ARC sp16 premap output impedance being 20K ohm, I would want an amp in the 200K input impedance range (my A3CR is only 31K). Also, interconnects factor into the equation in regards to impedance loads presented to ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Here's an interesting thread on the impedance matching issue:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?aamps&1227661419&openflup&12&4#12The consensus here seems to be a 10:1 amp input/pre-amp out ratio is a good target. Also that act...
