Review: Yamaha CR-840 Vintage AM/FM Receiver Amplifier I have a smaller but similar yamaha receiver in my second system (2 channel A/V system in our family room) that I picked up for $60 used on Ebay and cleaned up myself.I use it with a highly regarded (though not exceptionally expensive) DAC and spe...
I need help - Better DAC or NEW CD player? " I hear differences with USB cables, spdif and toslink. Furthermore on different cables of the same type and usb converters such as the hiFace- not to mention transports especially. "That is interesting and surprises me a bit. I'm not sure exactl...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? That should be a very nice upgrade (three generations of driver improvements) from original Walsh 4's to the latest 5000 drivers! I would expect to hear a big difference. Please let us know how it turns out.
I need help - Better DAC or NEW CD player? 4est,I think the thing is that no two DACs sound the same, much like phono setups, but that is where the similarites end. I think Kijanki is correct in asserting that with the BEnchmark, its sound will not vary much based on transport within certa...
How low is a piano? OHM Walsh speakers cross over at around 8khz I believe in which case the single Walsh driver would handle most everything a piano can produce. Piano does sound very dynamic and natural on the Walshs.

Is my room doomed? Pic Enzo, did you hear the Gryphon/Rockport combo with a tube pre-amp prior? That particular SS amp with a tube pre-amp is suspect for me along with the room due to its relatively low input impedance in combo with a tube pre-amp. An impedance mismatch b...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Here's some email news from OHM I just received that should be of interest to those looking at upgrading older OHMs."Dear Ohm owners,To encourage you to move up to the "latest and greatest Ohms ever", we are increasing the trade in values of all o...
Is my room doomed? Pic "why omnis?"See my first post above. Omnis will project the sound more evenly and naturally throughout the room. They require fewer room treatments in general in larger more difficult rooms than more directional designs. That's why I have landed o...
Wavac PR-T1 thoughts? 10K ohm input impedance on the Gryphon amps according to specs is not a great # for use with tube pre-amps, which tend to have higher output impedance than SS amps in general. The Wavac advertises 600 ohm output impedance, which is a nominal estim...
Is my room doomed? Pic Break in is real in many cases. ABut also in many cases, you are screwed with no recourse if you wait for it to happen and it still doesn't meet your expectations. Not sure what your exact contingency options are with the seller (hopefully there i...
Is my room doomed? Pic You would think closing the drapes would help if the windows behind the listening position were the major factor, but the OP indicates that closing the drapes did not make much difference, which is not encouraging. "Is my room doomed?"Never fear, ... |
