Best Amplification for B&W 802D
If you want the best sound on a limited budget, go 2-channel for both audio and video. Less channels=less cost to do well and keep it that way. Downside is you loose all those cool surround effects in movies if those matter.I retain a 2 channel on...

If you can, go somewhere where you can hear your speakers in a setup first before buying.Or make sure you have a satisfaction guarantee with a clearly defined return policy.Yes, it "should" sound pretty good, but actual goodness is in the ear of t...
I know this has probably been discussed...
I agree with Elizabeth. Not about thrashing her, but that for teh most part teh technical difference, though they certainly exist do not really matter much. The purpose of having a hifi is to listen to music. Just do it.If it doesn't sound good, t...

"Kurt Cobain, he did redefine rock and roll."Not Courtney Love? She's been looking quite sophisticated of late.Just kidding. I am a Kurt Cobain fan but am kind of mad at him for not sticking around.

Yes, Chet Atkins ranks up there! How could I forget The Duke?Peter Gabriel...good pick also.I'd toss Tony Banks in there also. That's at least 3 former Genesis members. Not too shabby....Add Phil Collins. That's 4 ex Genesis guys!

The bottleneck is most likely redbook CD format, not digital in general.Digital masters can be very high resolution and very good quality these days, I believe. Those that get transferred to vinyl may not be affected by the same limitations as CD ...

Is this clipping?
Here is an interesting site to find out more about dynamic range of specific recordings:Dynamic Range DbLots of red and much less green in recent years.Still, you can't generalize that recordings in gener...
Is this clipping?
Psag,I think it is a safe thing to say that it is generally harder and more expensive to get a system to sound really good when played (realistically) loud than unrealistically soft.Louder requires more power than soft. That is pretty intuitive, r...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
"King Crimson typically chases me out of the room"Well, they certainly are not everyone's cup of tea. Most people either love them or hate them. What I like about the act is that they have a well deserved reputation for musical innovation, perhaps ...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
I've found the Class D's in my rig to be phenominal for modern pop/rock music, the best by far I have ever owned.Only big, expensive, heavy, hot running, power gulping monster amps can compete with this kind of music IMHO.I was listening to "Amput...
Merlin TSM with Manley Mahi-Mahi?
Adding a sub is a natural and cost effective step for most monitor owners that want to go to a more full range sound.I know that there are some that are anti sub as well. And there are those that do not care about the lowest octaves of sound as wel...
What makes strings sound "sweet"?
Rtn1,I agree with what you are saying. Getting a handle on massed strings has been one of the biggest challenges for my system I have found. But I don't think that invalidates that different mikings produce different sounds in recordings.I will li...
Merlin TSM with Manley Mahi-Mahi?
Reb,I think you are approaching the end of your journey at this point and are not far from your audio nirvana. If you are not there after this amp change, the next thing I would suggest is considering adding a powered sub, if needed. That should pre...
Class "D" amp? I do not have a clue. Do you?
"Those who claim Class D amps are aggressive and/or unbalanced either haven't heard the newest products or have poor listening skills."Or they may have heard them in the wrong setup. No amp or amp technology works best in all cases, including Class...
