solid state vs tubes
Atmas,Darn, I thought I submitted you on this topic.Oh well...So another way to look at it then is the soft clipping approach distorts the loudness cues by reducing them to make them more digestible to human ears.OK, but real sound in the real wor...
50' speaker or 50' interconnect?
Hmm, I would have tended to run the speaker wires longer for fear that longer runs of low level signal wires are more subject to noise and interference from external sources. I guess not so much if shielded.BTW, I have speakers up to about 15-20 y...
Noteworthy article on preserving audio heritage
Interesting.SHould the government be spending money to preserve the things that apparently nobody cares enough otherwise to preserve?I would tend to say no. Let the open market determine what is worth preserving. I do not want my taxpayer dollars ...
Speakers to big room
Bvdiman sounds like he has the experience with these. His recommendations all sound reasonable to me.Often, placement within the room, interactions with floors and walls, etc. can make all the difference. Definitely make sure the setup within teh r...
Speakers to big room
Hmm, well, nothing in the specs jumps out as a problem.I wonder how much current teh amp is capable of delivering? That might be a factor with teh larger drivers. Often, integrated amps involve compromises in design and current delivery of integra...
Speakers to big room
I know tube amps are popular with high sensitivity designs like those, but I wonder if insufficient damping could be the culprit? Tube amps have higher output impedance which results in lower damping. Have you ever tried a SS amp with very high da...
Single driver point source speakers vs. the world?
Any comments on some the dula driver point source designs out there? Like Tannoys for instance. How do these compare to single driver point source and perhaps other higher efficiency designs out there these days?
Good Sound under $500
I've heard the Ushers you like.Triangle Titus XS or Comete with sub used might give the Ushers a good comparative run but for much less in your price range.I've run my Titus XS with an M&K sub and will say when dialed in the resulting sound is...
Speakers to big room
NEver heard those Tannoys but they look very nice! Are you sure you have the right amp to max out the performance with those speakers? I am not familair with your amp so cannot say, but I would confirm that first before changing speakers if you li...
Best amp for my needs?
I've heard stereo pair sound very good run off a Krell integrated so Krell/ML struck me as a good pairing.Same true off of Classe amps years ago. Not sure if Classe does multi channel though?Wyred 4 Sound is another line that I think I would want ...
best position of components in relation to spkers?
I have my gear including turntable along the left hand wall towards rear of the 12X12 room and use 18' Audioquest cv6 speaker wires. This setup works great and is the cat's meow!YMMV.
Single driver point source speakers vs. the world?
No discussion of single driver point source speakers would be complete without considering these:Walsh Exotic Speakers
solid state vs tubes
The m4.0t I had did very well with Magnepan mg1c speakers for years delivering a lot of tube-like attributes in the sound. Most notably, zero fatigue....the longer you listened, the longer you wanted to listen. I cannot go so far as to say the sou...
Albert Porters after market panzerholz plinths
One thing for sure, those old and often somewhat austere tables sure look a heck of a lot better in a nice, shiny, big new plinth! That alone is worth something!
solid state vs tubes
"It is true that the soft clipping of tubes means you will get less of the odd-ordered harmonics, but this has nothing to do with dynamic range."Less loudness cues perhaps then. If you perceive the peaks as less loud because that is how people hea...
