Is remastered mainly just less jitter?
I listen to Classical exclusively.  The remastering are almost always superior.  There are none of the loudness issues.  From what I have read the biggest reason for the improvement is that early CD issues of analog recordings featured 14 bit ADCs...
New Lux SACD unit
@randyhat embarrassed to admit that I also own the Sony XA 5400 ES in a different system, have wondered the same, and haven't tried it.  The problem is that since I first created the system with the Sony, which sits in a surround system in our mai...
New Lux SACD unit
@milpai I would refer you the Larry Greenhill review in Stereophile as my experience is fairly similar.  Previously I was listening to my SACD via my Oppo 105 in 2 channel .  Compared to the Oppo the dynamic range and soundstage have both noticeab...
New Lux SACD unit
Isn't sonic nirvana a beautiful thing?  I am enjoying my SACDs with my Oppo 105 outputting DSD into a Bryston BDA-3 via HDMI.  SACD is such a great format when it is well reproduced
Conversion to DSD: Does It Eliminate Digital Glare?
I don't think it's a fantasy to say long live SACD.  In Classical Music there are over 3000 titles available .   My current two DACS, the Mytek Manhatten and the Bryston BDA-3, are glare free, even on the worst recordings.  I'm sure the DSD has so...
Best standalone music server?
@randyhat I agree with your last thought.  I love my Vault2 but in your case for the same expenditure you can get a pretty good CDP that will have digital inputs.  You will enjoy your CD collection and every other digital source more.
Best standalone music server?
@juke4u. I, for one, am not interested in having a vinyl vs digital debate.  There are plenty of other places to go looking for that discussion.  I have decided that digital is it for me and ain't lookin back.  You may notice that this folder is l...
Best standalone music server?
For those of you concerned that the Bluesound Vault 2 may not be high end enough for you, I suggest that if you already have a DAC that you like, play it through the DAC and call it a day
Best standalone music server?
I've just seen this thread for the first time.I have the Bluesound Vault 2, and in other rooms in the home I have a Node 2 and the Minipulse.I had tried a PC based system and frankly it was to much hassle.  I have no desire to be dealing with IT i...
Need Help Ripping My CD Collection
@nycjleeThe Bluesound Vault 2 does sound good but it has digital outs so it can be used with a better DAC.  It can also be used as part of a whole home system
Berkeley vs Bryston vs Lampizator
@audiotroy I have the original Manhatten.  I guess I should contact Mytek about an upgrade but I'm so happy with it that I haven't bothered
Dac from mid range to cost no object
DACs that do SACD are rare beasts.  I own the Bryston BDA 3 which has HDMI inputs.  One needs a transport that that can output DSD from the SACDs and I use an Oppo 105.  The transport should be figured in the cost.  The Bryston is good with Redboo...
How old is too old for a Dac?
OP- that is a great question.Digital, and in particular the DAC end of things, change so fast.  I've just invested a bundle in 2 DACs and they both are supposed to be upgradable via firmware updates.  Hopefully that keeps me sane for a while
Tidal and Streaming player
Yamaha and other AVRs have their own streaming/whole home applications similar to Bluesound.  It may depend on the other needs in your system.  If you need or want an AVR, you might consider them.  I have a Bluesound Vault 2 in my 2 channel system...
Packing up my CDP...bittersweet
