Why stream?
Not trying to be pedantic, but the word streaming can mean a few different things.  One can stream their own physical content that has been transferred to a hard drive (CDs, downloads, digitalized lps or cassettes, etc).  One can also pay a stream...
Why stream?
I am not sure what your issue is.  You enjoy a streaming service such as Spotify, for sound quality as well as for catalog and ease of use.  What is the issue?
What is the best sounding Mahler symphony cycle?
lowrider    I really respect Jansons (R.I.P.) as a builder and maintaner of terrific Orchestras, namely the Concertgebouw and the Bavarians.  However I don’t care for his Mahler.  Sonically, agreed, wonderful stuff.  My issues is that he reminds m...
Has all decency left the entire planet?
Damn Iranians...
What is the best sounding Mahler symphony cycle?
More  Budapest...I auditioned the Sixth.  It’s Andante-Scherzo, which I don’t like but can correct with a touch of the remote.  And there is some great playing here, particularly strings in the Alma theme and elsewhere.  However, I am starting to ...
Classical Music for Aficionados
I hi haven’t heard any Julia Fisher recordings since she left Pentatone, but I have all those recordings and play them in MC constantly.  I also got to see her live at the Aspen Music festival back when she was making those Pentatone records, once...
Best Sounding Bruckner Recordings
I’m listening to the Karajan/Berlin Fifth on Blu Ray, and in comparing this to the Redbook Fifth I hate to use the usual audiophile cliche like a veil being lifted, etc...but there it is.  Maybe the cliche about everything snapping into focus is m...

There is consolidation in the industry.  There is consolidation in every industry, including service industries like Banking and Health Care.  In Healthcare, it’s bad—the one one percenters suck the life out of everything and make everyone work li...
Classical Music for Aficionados
I heard Milstein in recital months before he died, in Chicago.  The outstanding memory is of hom playing the Bach Second Partita (the one with the great Chaconne), simply staggering playing, particularly for an Octagenarian.  After he died many CD...

JcazadorI heard Ormandy conduct the Philadelphians in the Berlioz Requiemin Ann Arbor in the late seventies.  I was unfamiliar with the piece.  My seat was in the balcony and boy was I surprised when the guys sitting two rows in front of me dresse...
Best Sounding Bruckner Recordings
I think I paid $25 for the Blu Ray of just the Fourth.  Yes, I would say that’s a bargain, but to paraphrase Pete Townsend, “not the best I ever had.”
Who else here is frugal?
Good thread, Eric.  A lot of thoughtful posts here.  I particularly appreciate the posts by audiozenology and almarg.  I will say that a few years ago I realized that the quest for perfect sound reproduction is ultimately pointless, because whenev...
Quobuz issues on the Bluos app
Well, I’ve looked for the tab that you describe on on both my iPad and my Android Phone BluOS App and don’t see it.

Should I still buy a CD player? Suggest one?
OPDid your  CDs survive the fire?  Do you have a large collection?  Are they not backed up to a HD?  If the answer is yes to all 3 questions, then it seems like you will want a CD player.  Unless, of course you are ready to ditch the CDs and go wi...
