What do you say to your audiophile friends who say you just listen to your equipment more
Great sound enhances the appreciation of great music.  The gear is a means to an end, not an end in itself
Streaming music
I’ve done the Mac&DAC, and I’ve used streamers.  My first two streamers were Bluesound Vault2 and an Oppo 105.  I prefer both to the MacAir, but it wasn’t a tremendous difference.  My latest streamer is a Bryston BDP3, and it’s definitely a st...
Redbook CD players, vs. Multi-Format players
The Devil Is In The Details.  Which players are you comparing?  I am assuming that you are comparing only Redbook Replay on all the players.I now output my Oppo 105 into a Bryston DAC 3, but the Oppo may have been the best disc player that I ever ...
Audiophile quality streamer/server-in-one without a DAC. Does this exist?
Yes a few more details from nicodemix would help.  Where is your library stored?  How do you control content?
Fear of Streaming
I do find that when I stream, I am a lot less likely to listen to an entire album than when I am listening to physical media.  So much choice and it is so tempting to change, which isn’t so easy with CDs or lps.
XA5400ES owners - what are you using now?
I am very happy with my Bryston DAC3, which allows me to listen to the DSD layer of my SACDS, and I use the Opp 105 and the Sony as a transport for both.I don’t know if anyone has recommended the Marantz KI SACD player but it’s in your range of bu...
XA5400ES owners - what are you using now?
The OP didn’t mention two issues 1) Does he listen to SACDs? Does he need Blu Ray?2) Budget I use my Sony as a transport into a Bryston DAC3, which accepts HDMI.  For SACD, the DSD is outputted from the Sony.  If your budget can stretch that far, ...
Another Music Direct Catalog observation
I listen primarily to Classical Music.  For a variety of reasons, after World War II most newly composed Music has had trouble entering the canon of basic repertoire.  Most of the energy of discovery or rediscovery has been on Composers that were ...

SACD or not
Tomcy, no ill  will intended, but reading back your posts it isn’t sufficiently clear to me that you are saying that Classical SACDs can be had at more reasonable rates non Classical.  Anyway , I think that we are in agreement there, now that I be...
what CD player or dac I should get. my preamp is sp10, amp is d-150
Regarding the OP, he thinks Janos Starker Cello in the Six Bach Suites for Solo Cello sounds like a Viola.  Starker actually does have a light, pure tone, and of course in the Sixth Suite it will sound light is because Bach wrote it for a 5 string...
Meridian 800 DVD/CD Version 4
For $1000 I would buy the new Pioneer Elite Universal Player.  I haven’t heard it but it has gotten excellent reviews for both audio and video and I am thinking of adding it to one of my Home Theater Systems.  For 2 channel it has analog outputs t...
SACD or not
I beg to differ, tomcy6.  See my previous post.  Many Classical SACDs now going for 5-12 bucks a pop
SACD or not
Regarding the cost of SACDS, a few weeks ago I bought about $300 worth from Berkshire Record Outlet, at about $5 each, primarily Pentatone and Audite Labels.  Last night  I bought another large haul of Channel Classics from Presto Classical that w...
SACD or not
It’s true that not every SACD sounds better than a Redbook layer on the same disc, there are some labels that are known for their consistency in quality with SACD.  Channel Classics and BIS are two labels that consistently produce outstanding SACD...
