Myraj, I've never been a fan of sitting at a wall boundry.BUT, I think you may be right that it is worth a try, so no beef. I have a small woolen tapestry (Peruvian, bought in mid '80s) on the back wall which tames a nasty echo. I have a short wal...
Sub-woofer/ Source for MAgnepan MG 1.6s
to all those who feel....'it's not necessary', I might have agreed until I got one.It is both true that you don't notice it when it's on and miss it's when its off.Proper setup is key. X-over freq. / location / loudness /phase / room All matter.
Life without a remote
NO REMOTE? The end of Civilization as we know it!
New Fuse Thread . . .
The only possibility is that a higher resistance fuse used in the tweeter circuit of my Magnepans could cause a SLIGHT attenuation of the highs. There is a 1ohm wirewound supplied with the speakers and they claim about a 1.5db drop. Buss has a tab...
Confused by ICE applications
Yep, been in touch w/designer. He had to tell me about the 'bridge' switch.....basically 2x juice MONO! Can you spell 's u b a m p'??My first (guess / intent / urge) is to go with 4x12 gel cells for each rail....This will give REAL clean low rippl...
Confused by ICE applications
Just took delivery of an International Recitifier AUDAMP7S stereo half-bridge class 'd' amp. I'll be trying to build a battery operated 2nd system with it.Unfortunately, it has NO built in PS, so it is either battery of +-55v or so....or the hardw...
Love it, or Hate it ? (wood trim)
Love wood and would love to see MORE used in hi-end gear.It is also a natural composite, non-magnetic (maybe Ironwood is?) and will help in in resonance / vibration control.Several plusses to me outweigh the aestetic disadvantage to some.

Myraj, I was with you up until you put the seat up against the back wall. Tough room. short wall / long wall? even multiple room dimmensions will be tough, almost no matter what. How high is the ceiling? If like 8', (common) than that is another b...
System tuning tips from Hi Fi Plus
demagnatize a CD? Why? it's aluminum, for Pete's sake.Aluminum is paramagnetic. And, while an induced current will also (by definition of electromagnetism) make a magnetic field, how does this effect anything?
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
I'd sure find out! How long had it been on when it 'smoked'?I don't know your repair skills, but I'd sure be looking for a schematic / meter / solder sucker / scope / iron (10watt?) Lacking the skillset needed to fix it, a good repair guy, for sur...
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
don't worry about a part that doesnt' measure 'exactly' as marked. All have a built in tolerance. Lower/better=$$$$$I haven't plowed thru the whole thread, but how old was the cap that smoked? They do that, you know. Caps age. If a piece of gear h...
2 subs?
Don't throw any money at the problem until diagnosed. Send everyone to the movies and start moving the sub and speakers until you get a result, even if you can't leave them there. Than you'll know.
How to test if conductor is copper or silver based
In order to do the Density / Displacement test you need several things.....usually inaccessible to most persons.1. Source of REALLY pure water. Distilled is best.2. Temperature control. Everything should be at same temp.3. Metler Balance or equivi...
2 subs?
Google 'room mode calculator' and look for the Harman International White Paper on multiple subs. 'evens out the sound' is not quite exact. 2 subs can be located to excite room modes differently and in that way 'even out' the sound. The 'peak' nod...
slew rate and rise time
Shadorne, At least you get it.Once above a certain minimal value, who cares? The Speaker has the last word here. I have heard a speaker alledged to have a 'Q' of .707 and it sounded almost bass thin.Does a low 'Q' speaker have what I have heard ref...
