Quatre dg-250 amplifier
In SD?Try Stereo Design off of Clairmont Mesa, near where it crosses the 805.http://stereodesign.com/Been there 20+ years and have a huge operation.
"The Heat Pipes are coming"... The Heat Pipes are
No design details. I have several interesting features in mind which I've not seen implemented anywhere at any price. I will be using allthread at the corners. NO MDF is planned and the heatpipes will need more research. As a clue to what will be ...
"The Heat Pipes are coming"... The Heat Pipes are
A class'a' amp which is designed with heatpipes in mind from the blank sheet of paper phase will be a much nicer animal. Moving the heat into the room from the gear and doing so more efficiently and without noise is a good thing.I'm working on a d...

Elizabeth:No joke about the drool factor. I'm taking woodshop so I can make my own frames and external crossover boxes.......

The theory of panel stiffness and the resonant qualities of wood are 'sound'.The reviews of listeners/buyers are almost universally positive. MDF is awful stuff and while good for 'boxes', leaves something to be desired for panel frames. I have NO...
Looking for CD players with digital inputs.
Does the CA740 have such inputs? I know my 840 DOES and a pair of each. However, if going to the used market, Make Sure the player has the latest software.....or you may find a source with excess jitter will baffle it......and produce an awful noise.
How to read speaker sensitivity rating?
Sensitivity, like most other specs is somewhere between misunderstood and meaningless. Without some other information, like some idea of maximum power handling and phase angles at frequency, sensitivity is just another number to hit back and forth...
When have A/B comparisons led you astray?
Exactly, Paul......expectations and wishes. Stuff like....'It costs more, so it MUST be better'
Adequacy of Mac MC7300?
Can you get into the Pass int-150 for similar money?
OTL Tube Amp for Maggie 3.6?
Even MORE important than sensitivity is the phase angle of the load. That is to say....how capactive or inductive the speaker is.Find the Stereophile test of the speaker. The test is in their archives and will have an impedance / phase graph again...
When have A/B comparisons led you astray?
Agree with a few of the above posters:Snap judgements are frequently wrong.Time is, in this case, your friend.Differences may be easy to hear, but better? Just from a setup standpoint, I make many changes fairly quickly when doing a fresh install....
Is it possible to get Hi-end sound ??
Don't generally listen to the 'deep pocket' guys. If I had that kind of $$$, I'd start marching gear thru my system looking for 'perfection'. And drive myself crazier than I already am! Most people don't reach that point, but DO reach a very hi le...

Apple Airplay Sound Quality
I thought the stereophile test measured large amounts of jitter?I know my 840c simply doesn't like the optical input while the analogue output of the AE is only OK. But, in this case convenience trumps ultimate quality. My lossless files transmitte...
Speaker Impedance ... nominal 6 ohms
One key to this is the word....'nominal'....If the speaker is +- a couple ohms of the rating, the test would be OK.If there are some wacky peaks / dips, you may have some problems. Again, testing and paying attention to the amps heating will be ke...
