Trelja in New York Was that a review or a diatribe? By your own account, the rooms were too small and there were too many people packed in them to give most companies a proper audition. In the case of one company (Creek) you even admit to having heard the gear sound...
dvd-audio or sacd vs. 7.1 pre/pro The new 6.1 processors have the ability to create a "matrixed" back surround channel (some, like the Ref 30, can even create two such signals, but these back surround signals are both mono and the whole thing really can't be called 7.1). The matri...
Newbie with "bright" system Mraybeck, I used the Truth-Links before upgrading to the Pro-Silway Mk II's. The PS II's have better detail and sparkle in the highs, but they cost more and I wasn't sure if they'd help the brightness problem as much as the Truth-Link's. But if yo...
Dedicated line vs. power conditioner Thanks everyone for your advice, experience and suggestions. Sounds like the dedicated line is the better way to go. Now for my next question: How do I explain to my wife that the "perfectly good" outlets in my listening room need a $300 upgrade?...
Talon Speakers I have to wonder how my last comment could earn -2,-2. I'm answering the person's question. If you have a problem with what I said, state it.
Talon Speakers I would echo Dearle's comments. Check your owner's manual and note what they say about breakin time. Talon speakers take about 400 hrs to sound their best, according to the manual.
Newbie with "bright" system Mraybeck, in answer to your question--there are a lot of fine preamps out there that you'd be happy with. I've enjoyed the BAT gear that I've owned, but there are many others that would work well. Classe and Pass Labs come to mind as two that you ...
Newbie with "bright" system Quick follow-up...if your amp is brand new (you didn't buy it used), it probably needs some breaking in. New components often sound harsh and edgy until they get at least a hundred hours under their belt. I wouldn't do anything drastic until you'r...
Newbie with "bright" system I have the BAT VK30SE and VK-500 w/BAT-PAK, just like Jeff. Fantastic products, but I don't think you need to drop that kind of change (around $6k used) if all you're looking to do is take the edge off a bright-sounding system. My recommendation i...
Finally gonna buy new speakers, ideas? Check out Talon Audio at www.talonaudio.com. Their flagship Khorus speaker can be had for well under your $10k price limit. Read the reviews they have there. Also, check out www.audioreview.com to read consumer reviews of most speakers. I have the...
Warm sounding ss power amps Class CA-300. I later replaced mine with a BAT VK-500 for a variety of reasons, but the CA-300 is a warmer sounding component and a great value at the used prices I see it going for.
Sonic difference Vk200 vs. VK500? I should just add that the 200 is no chump in the power department either, but the 500 w/BAT-PAK will drive any speaker made given the juice to do so.
Sonic difference Vk200 vs. VK500? I own the VK-500. A good friend of mine has owned both and reports that the 200 is perhaps even a bit more musical than the 500, although he likes the significant headroom that the 500 offers. If you don't need the power, the 200 is a great buy.
Cones vs. factory spikes? There was a thread from 2-6-01 entitled, "Talon Khorus owners, please read" that you might find interesting. The poster said the Sistrum SP-1 platforms were even better than the Orchard Bay cones with his Talon Khorus'. I've not used them, but the...
Best headphones under 800.00 USD The Sennheiser HD-600's are well below that price (can be found below $300) and are very well regarded. |
