Software to give woofers a work-out The soundtrack to the movie American Beauty has some extremely low passages. And it's pretty good music, to boot. But for breaking in speakers, I'd go with a dedicated break-in CD such as the one Stereophile makes (I think it's test CD 3).
center channel match for maggies? There are some good points above, but here's a contrary view for what it's worth--I've also used the Phantom mode on my pre/pro to avoid using a center speaker. This works alright if you are sitting in the sweet spot and the two main speakers are ...
Sony XA7ES headphone section I have both. The Sony seems to do a good job of driving the 600's, but I've nevered used a headphone amp, so I don't know how it would compare.

Don't try this at home hElP Contact the manufacturer and ask what a repair would cost. I've had damaged cables before, and the manufacturers offered to repair them for free if I shipped them in. Can't hurt to ask.
Smear campaign? I agree with Trelja that people should stand behind what they say about a product. But I'm not sure forcing registration would solve the problem of people smearing a product for whatever reason. Anyone can create an email address and register unde...
Speaker upgrade - please advise. The Talon Khorus speakers need to be on your short list. They can be had used for under $6k. They may not look as cool as the N802's, but they're an attractive speaker nonetheless. Check out their website for professional reviews and more info at ...

How many dedicated lines? Thanks to everyone for your excellent input and advice. One more question--someone told me that when running multiple lines out of the box you need to run them all from either odd or even outputs (2,4,6 or 1,3,5 etc.) in order to avoid phase probl...
Loudspeakers played LOUD All of the speakers from Talon excel at playing distortion free at ridiculously loud levels. Give 'em a listen. Not to be a wet towel here, but I would just caution that regular exposure to sounds above about 90 dB or so can lead to irreparable hea...
What Are Your Audio Morals? Great question. I believe Stereophile had an editorial on this subject about a year or so ago. I think there's a point at which it becomes unethical to use a salesperson's resources when shopping for something you plan to buy used on the internet....
Unbelievable Solid State Amp at 2-3k ran Check out the BAT VK500 with the optional BAT/PAK (go to www.balanced.com). It will drive any speaker with ease. It has very solid bass and is very neutral sounding. The Pass is a great amp, but it doesn't have the headroom of the BAT. Good luck.
Darn it, I scratched my Roland Now what I've never tried this, but you might be able to use some of that bluing material used on the metal surfaces of firearms. Check with your local gun shop. If the color is close enough, you might be able to apply a tiny amount with a very fine brush ...
My Poop theory by kublakhan I agree with Bluenose. After a several-week hiatus from listening, I recently fired up the system again. Even stone cool I was pleasantly surprised at the detail and quality of the sound. I remember not being quite satisfied with a number of thing...
Trelja in New York Trelja--First off, my comments to you were not intended to start any sort of flame war. I realize you were just stating your opinion, and I think we all recognize the time you took to record your thoughts for the membership here. I certainly don't... |
