Tube/Solid State Bi-Amplification Gfields,Ljgi has summed up the situation well. I'd like to clarify one point, though. If you use an active crossover (like the Bryston 10B), you'll only need a single preamp output. You'll connect your preamp to the active crossover and then conne...
Turntable help Please Pops,As for a phono stage, NAD, Parasound, and Creek all make MM phono stages for less than $200. I'm using the NAD which I bought here for less than $100.
Coolest looking speaker ever ? Sean- thanks, your nomination gave the best laugh I've had in two days! For dynamic speakers I'm partial to Avalon's cabinetry. Their smaller speakers, though, the Osiris and Sentinel are a little too much for me.For planars I also like the ML CLS.
Threshold T-50 vs Forte 4 ? Pcs,I'll not add any to Sean's posts, he's got far more equipment experience than I do. I will comment on service; however. Remember that Threshold's last designs, the T series, used IGBT transistors that are no longer available. I don't know for ...
Ugliest speaker ever? Sd,I' second your nominaiton of the Calix: the cabinet work looks great in the picture (as does the wood), but the shape and those cages...While I'd love to hear a pair, my wife would never let me bring a pair of MBL 101Ds into the house. Finally, ...
I need amplification..... S7horton,I've heard that B&W uses Rotel for their powered speakers. I used Rotel happily for several years. A friend used an old Parasound receiver of mine wtih his new 603 SII and said that he liked the sound, but 25 W wasn't enough for his t...
What is the best amp setup for Magnepan 3.6 ? Ebonyvette,To answer your other question, you do not need monoblocs to bi-amp. Bi-amping requires a total of 4 amplifier channels, so you could use 2 stereo amps, 1 stereo and 2 mono amps, or 4 mono amps.
What do you do when the kids come along? My experience has been closer to Jeff's than to Pkaram's. My 2-year-old knows what she can touch and can use the CD player, DVD and VCR with a little help. What I miss is the time to criticaly listen at the columes I'd like (which aren't all THAT ...
Anyone have any experience with CJ Evolution 2000? Artemus,I heard that amp years (and years) ago driving Celestion SL700si. LOVED that system, the speakers absolutely disappeared in that room.
What is the most powerful SET tube amplifier? Dweller may be thinking of the CD-1610 that is rated for 55W per channel. That's the one JA from Stereophile ranted about as only being able t output 9W at 3% THD.
rooftop antennae for tuner and TV Philjolet,I've had a weingard antenna (used for TV only) for years. Works well, surprisingly inexpensive.
Brute power cheap?? Adcom Vs. Rotel vs. NAD Chazzbo,I've owned both NAD (still do) and Rotel. When deciding on an upgrade several years ago, I auditioned NAD, Rotel, B&K, Hafler, and Adcom. I preferred them in this order: Rotel (bought), NAD (2400 a close 2nd, great bass, but the Rotel'...
Are You An Audiophile Or A Music Lover? Keep the music and ditch the equipment, like everyone else.Do I get double bonus points? I made my decision at midnight at the crossroads after killing a man in Memphis.
Fedex, didn't it used to mean Federal Express? So that you'll know that all is not lost: I sent a set of speakers to my brother-in-law via FedEx Ground. I shipped on Thursday morning and they arrived on Saturday afternoon. We were all shocked, me especially since I'd told my BIL not to expect ...
Best Sounding used amplifier under 1000??? David99 has a good point, 200W seems like a lot of power for efficient speakers. If you think you can live with 100W, I'd consider the Threshold S/200 which can be had for $800-$900. The Sonograph amps also sound good and can be had for your budget. |
