Getting The Most Out Of My Scout
It's very scientific, it just sounds better. Deeper, fuller, more extended. I don't know what the technical reasons are, but it's a better sounding rig. I have never heard anyone who had both say any different.

Recommended interconnect phono to preamp
I tried a bunch, and ended up with VPI cable, it sounds great. I have recently switched to a Graham Slee made cable to match the connections to my Graham Slee Elevator step up transformer, and these have been wonderful as well.I would suggest the ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Philb7777, I must admit that after reading your post, in response to my admission to listening to the Producers, I went to the garage and grabbed the following albums, steam/Walker Solutions, cleaned them then had a very guilty '80's listening ses...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Al Green - Greatest HitsLed Zeppenlin - II (unopened, green Mexican pressing from '81, pretty cool), IV (orginal '71 pressing, in great shape after a 3rd cleaning)Cassandra Wilson - LoverlyRadiohead - Pablo Honey, new but with a significant warp, ...
Getting The Most Out Of My Scout
I think the Classic blows the Scout away, and I have had both, and the Aries. It does not need all of the upgrades to get to the next level. I got rid of my SDS and arm on the Classic is better, IMHO, than the 10.5 that comes on the Aries, and blo...
Pioneer Elite A-35r and Magnepan MMG's
That said, I have seen many a Magnepan demo at electronic shows, and they always use MASSIVE power amps. Krell, Pass Labs, high powered ARC gear, and as of the last few years, all Bryston gear. Their CES demo of the mini Maggies system this year w...
Pioneer Elite A-35r and Magnepan MMG's
These estimates are low even for the MMG, the Pioneer would be hard pressed to drive the MMG to any type of reasonable sound.I would suggest a NAD 218 amp if you can find one. Not expensive, and tons of headroom. I drove some 1.6's with that amp w...
New DAC recommendation $1K, hopefully tube.
I only used my Havana with an AppleTV and it was great. That said, I did find a big improvment by using a really good TosLink cable, and I am imfamously anti-crazy-cable improvments. But in this case it made a very big differnce.
Any Michael Bub'le fans.......
Thomastrouble, I'm glad you like Buble, but you can't compare him to someone he is in essence an impersonator of. I agree someone can come along that is better, but this is like saying a Led Zeppelin tribute band is better than Led Zeppelin, that'...
mcintosh mc402+c46 or mc402+c2200,2300
Depends on the speakers but probably number 2. That's a great tube-SS combo for a speaker that needs a lot of juice. You know some nice Focals, Linns, Egglestons, Paradigm Signatures, Vandersteens, etc. that would sound great!!
Any Michael Bub'le fans.......
Did someone really say Michael Buble has a better voice (or anything) than Frank Sinatra? Come on, that didn't just happen did it? So the guy who makes his living from being a Sinatra impersonator sounds better than the man he basically lip syncs?...
Upgrade from DACMagic? B&W 805S rig
I have tried a million (well 8) DAC's this year, and I ended up with a Bryston BDA-1. You can get one used for about your price.

Quad or Magnepan?
I think it depends on the type of music you listen to. I love Maggies and have owned them for years, the do need a big, good, amp and placement is important, but not as much as related on these forums. That said, I love the Quads, great speakers. F...
