Cartridge for the JMW 10.5i
I could never get my Scoutmaster or Aries to the point that I liked them either. Both always seemed to have a bright sound to me. I also did the changing out of many components in the analog sectionf my set up to get rid of it. My Clearaudio table...

Lyra Helikon is nice, I have enjoyed my Grado The Reference 1 Signature. I have not heard the ZYX, all of the feedback is stellar.
New Magnepan 1.7 R
Really, are you comparing Usher's to Maggies?? Dude, that's brave. A legendary, universally revered spearker like Maggies and a generic drege like the Usher?? That's bold.
Which Universal Remote?
Harmony, any of the top ones. The 890 and One have both been great for me, and very easy to program. They also seem to always have even the most esoteric of equipment's codes on the database, so very little "learning" of commands.
New Magnepan 1.7 R
Sorry, article actually said a true "3 way" speaker not 2 way, pretty exciting for Magnepan.
Pass X1??
I don't think any of the Pass Labs stuff is ever obsolete. It all sounds really good in my book. The build quality is amazing.
Which Preamp will go well with Mag 3.6R ?
I had the Parasounds in my system a few years back, I really loved those too. Excellent choice. I don't know that I liked them better than the Bryston's, because they were a couple iterations of amps apart, but I did really like both of them.
What would you chose? VPI MKIII vs. Linn LP-12
just an FYI, I own a VPI Table, but I have always loved the Linn LP-12, what a great sounding table! I also like the tweaks you can do with it.Ahh the heck with it, buy the darn Linn!!!
Getting The Most Out Of My Scout
Cmalak, you are exactly right I am sure. After having a couple of great Clearaudio tables, I bought a Scout, and did some of the upgrades, then switched to an Aries I (the one everyone raves about being incredible with the original platter). I use...

You have not heard the table, by reading your comments. Your analysis of the engineering behind the tables is spot on, which is why everyone, myself included, is shocked when they hear the table. The reason every review is outstanding, is becuse t...
Which Preamp will go well with Mag 3.6R ?
I agree w/the MHDT tube DAC, I loved the Havana that I had. Just connect this to your Apple computer, Toslink better than USB, and play LossLess files. This will make you very happy.
Which Preamp will go well with Mag 3.6R ?
Tube preamps are great with Maggies and a high powered amp, that's exactly the set up I have.I would suggest buying a good DAC (Benchmark, Bel Canto, Bryston, PS Audio) instead of a CD player to start, and use it to decode lossless files. An Apple...
Magnepan Owners - Need Your Thoughts Please
In audio, as in life, there is no free lunch. Great high sensitivity speakers that can use nice flea powered amps, many of which are very reasonably priced, are usually very expensive. To the other extreme, there are Magnepan speakers, which altho...
What would you chose? VPI MKIII vs. Linn LP-12
I like the Linn of those choices, warmer sound, but why not the Grado on the Linn?
