Phono stage for tube system - recommendations?
I was shocked how good the Graham Slee stuff is. I have an Elevator now, and I plan on buying an Era Gold early next year when I switch to a line stage (Cary SLP05 or ARC Ref3)
Power Cables which take the soundstage back
You won't believe what just happened! The passionate (panicked) defense of hugely expensive power cord purchases swayed me and I went out and bought the most expensive cord my dealer had, thanks for opening for a Monday emergency Viet, and you guy...
Preamp for McIntosh MC225
You so have to get the C220 for that amp, the C2200 is just too modern, go all old school. All the Mac gear sounds great together. Nice amp, BTW.
Power Cables which take the soundstage back
Shellie and Knownothing (once again, very Plato-esque), you may now only refer to me as your Copernicus.Neither of you are members of the inquisition are you? Or since you obviously are practicioners of Magic, with your Magic Electric cords, are y...
Is Kind of Blue the Best Jazz Album Ever
It's a great album, and I listen to frequently, but I have to admit it's not my favorite. For many reasons it could by described as "The Best" when considering reasons brought up on this thread, but I listen to Chet Baker and Dave Brubek albums qu...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back
We could put in a GE LM6000, the heat rate is not as good as a 7fe, but smaller footprint. If we do it in Texas or California there is an excellent secondary market for exces power. I'll get a buddy to work up the plans. At about $22 million it wo...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back
Also Shellie, from looking at your other posts, I wonder if you actually work for or represent some cable company, because that is almost exclusively what you discuss. Always the same mantra "buy expensive cables". So, do you work a purveyor or bu...
Power Cables which take the soundstage back
Shellie, it's funny you bring up a power plant, you see I'm not exactly ignorant of how those work seeing as how I have developed, in a group, greater than 15 power plants over the last 10yrs. That's about 7000 MW of power. That has given me acces...
Glass&Steel and just ugly audio furniture
I'm with you, stuff is UGLY. No reason you can't use some very nice furniture or have something made. I have been mulling replacing my temporary rack for the last 4 yrs!! I have worked with a metal shop to build a rack to hold thick pieces of gran...
Speakers with good Bass recommendation
Def Tech BP 7004, second time this week I have recommended these. Great under-reported speaker. Built in subs, and bo-polar.
Phono Stage Question
I have a Graham Slee Elevator (step up device) which allows you to change the capcitance. But man, I don't hear any difference when I change the capacitance from the recommended setting for my cartridge.
That last micro cartridge adjustment
my new cartridge is a Grado, and the stylus is so far under the cartridge body, and there is so little space between the record surface and the cartridge, how do I see to get the lines right?Anyone used a MintLP or WallyTractor with a Grado cartri...
I need help with my Equipment addiction
Chayro, I feel like an alcholic who just got a presentation from the Seagrams rep on all of their great new beverages. You my friend are what we call in the addiction business, an "Enabler".Now, to more important things; what's for sale on here to...
That last micro cartridge adjustment
Man, I'm with you on that. the washers are a great idea. I just set up a new cartridge and that's is the biggest hassle in the whole process.I just used my VPI jig this time, but I ordered a new mint LP tractor for it finally. I am looking forward...
Why do mint-looking LPs sometimes play poorly?
That happens to me sometimes too. It's a bummer. I just paid a premium for a great looking version of Led Zep IV and then steam cleaned/Walker Audio Enzyme on my VPI machine and it's really noisey.Bummer
