Mint LP a no go – now what?
I just re-read this and you know the odd thing, is that for each turntable I have owned, I bought a MintLP (or once a Wally Tractor, which came after MONTHS and MONTHS of waiting) and they are great to set up any specific tonearm. But with the Cla...
Starting out- a Beatles question
I disagree with the "just play then new remasters on CD". I have those, both, and they are good, but not as good as the vinyl.I have run through many of the EXCELLENT Beatles pressings including some mono Parlaphones, a couple of awesome Japanese ...
Starting out- a Beatles question
Beatles catalog is currently not available on new vinyl. Since they are the best selling group of all time, there is a lot of used vinyl available, but most is in surprisingly bad shape. Beatles albums in good shape start at about $20/record. I su...
DVD-A player - while they still exist
What file type do you rip DVD-A to, using what program, and will any DAC play it back?Thx.
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
I agree with Rfogel18 completelly. That is a dumb statement. Most speakers just don't go down to the lowest frequencies. Not many are made that do. If you own Revel Salons that go down that low, well good for you, but if you own Maggies, or certai...
Should I bother to try a subwoofer?
the Rel, which is a GREAT sub for music, will add a lot to your musical experience. Try crossing it over at 55hrz to start and go down from there. I had a Rel B1 that I used with my Maggie 3.6R's (measured down to 34 hrz, about the same as your sp...
Integrateds with DAC?
Bel Canto C5i is absolutely great. It puts out 120w of clean power into 4 ohms, so I think that should work. I have seen a couple go on here for $1600 used, it's really a great piece of gear.
Best Tube Pre-Amp under 4K
Agree with the Conrad Johnson suggetion above and would add, used, a Cary SLP-05 or ARC LS26 (if you wait around, you may find an ARC Ref 3 in this price range).
What preamp would you mate to your Rogue M180's?
ARC ls26 (again), Cary SLP98 F-1 or SLP-05, Modwright 36.5, VTL 5.5, Conrad Johnson (any of them!).I love ARC gear, with almost anything.
Anyone tried Soundsmith VPI Zephyr MI Cartridge
Bifwynne, I have the Zephyr, agree with all you said, sadly now no need to upgrade cartridges, so I need to look at some other gear to upgrade, it's an addiction...I also own that MOFI Orbison disc, love it!\Enjoy.
can i improve my system with a better cd player?
Source (CD player, or other Digital Source) -> DAC -> Preamp -> amp -> Speakers.
can i improve my system with a better cd player?
Monterey, if you think the DAC in your Yamaha is superior, you will be shocked at what a newer DAC, stand alone, with the latest technology and higher BIT rates will sound like. If you want improvement buy a stand alone DAC.Look at Eastern Electri...
can i improve my system with a better cd player?
buy a new DAC.
can i improve my system with a better cd player?
You would be better off to buy a new stand alone DAC, with newer chipset, and use your existing disc spinner as a transport. I would suggest looking at a Musical Fidelity M1 DAC which I believe is just a bit above your budget at $600, but worth th...
