Where have all the protest songs gone?
Brucegel,I have no problem agreeing to disagree. This phenomenon of art being a prime mover, or galvanizing force, behind social change just isn't supported historically. Prior to Woody Guthrie's dust bowl commentaries through song, art and music ...
Where have all the protest songs gone?
Brucegel,I believe your attack on Avideo was unfounded. He didn't state MEANINGFUL discourse; his post said discourse. Meaningful is in the eye/ear of the beholder. You have given some insight into what you consider to be "meaningful" with an earl...
Low end TT vs. Hi end CD
Dennis,I'm glad you posted some additional information. I'll modify my recommendation somewhat. My guess is that you have an unstated desire to have a quality vinyl front end based on what you read from myself, Twl, Rockinroni and others. If that'...
Low end TT vs. Hi end CD
Dennis,You've got one really nice system. I don't understand your reluctance to get an analog player of the same caliber. Have you been kidding us all along? To answer your question directly, I doubt the 1200 will get past the Wadia.Patrick

U2 seems to have an opinion about everything. It'll come out shortly. Maybe Alec Baldwin will cut a few tracks.
How do I adjust the speed on my Linn Sondek LP 12?
There aren't any speed adjustments on the LP12. While I believe the Cirkus upgrade is a sonic improvment (I've had it done), I don't feel it is worth the money. I would consider one of the aftermarket power supplies that are offered instead of a n...
The Biggest Disappointments in Rock and Roll
The '76-'80 time frame that Tweakgeek is so fond of found yours truly scrambling to find some tunes to buy. Thankfully, Steely Dan and some of the Fusion people saved my sanity. This period was filled with Disco and the beginnings of large corpora...
Dylan SACD-good news.
This is good news Ben. I don't have an sacd player and have never heard one. Do you think that the multi-channel potential is a good thing? Or, more to the point, if a disc is made as multi-channel will playing it back in a two channel system take...
Thoughts on Amplification - Requesting feedback
Dennis,I think his was an honest post because during a reasonably short comparison, the bass will be more pronounced when solid state is inserted. I think it takes a more seasoned ear to appreciate the glorious, detailed mid-range that tubes provi...

Leon Russell rates as the top show I've ever seen.Neil Young is always a delight with a new persona each time.Frank Zapa was the most wonderful production.Elvis was spell binding and I'm not a big fan.Garth had the entire audience in his hand.When...

Thoughts on Amplification - Requesting feedback
Johnathan,My experience is that once you have a great source and a very good preamplifier an upgrade to a much better amp will bring life and realism out of your speakers that you never believed they were capable of.What you experienced in the dea...
Linn LP12 Black Felt Mat How do you keep it on ?

High-quality MP3s not comparable to CD WAVs ??
Mark,In my experience you are correct. If you are doing that high a sampling rate then you are very close to the file size of the original. Why not just keep it WAV from the get go?Patrick
Ok this will be a good thread.
