What do you know and how do you like the RCA 5963 Black Plates?
The 1950’s RCA 5963 sounds more dynamic than the standard 12AU7 Blackplate, IMO. It’s also a low-noise tube. The RCA 5814A is also a great Blackplate. My favorite is the 5814A JAN RCA triple Mica, a military grade tube.
Is it possible to categorize the Member Reviews section?
I can't even find the review section.
the eternal cable question
I suggest ordering from a company that provides a return policy such as Signal Cable or Morrow Audio. Talk to them about which model is best for you. I like the Silver Resolution from Signal. Is it true that mixing metals can produce different soni...
Forget the endless PC arguments, what about all our transformer equipment?
I think it depends on what type of device you are powering. If it is an audio component such as a DAC or TT motor, it would be wise to replace the wall-wart with a better PSU, which includes the transformer and better power cable. For a laptop or ...
Forget the endless PC arguments, what about all our transformer equipment?
I think you meant wall-warts. They are switch mode psu’s (SMPS) that can add noise to the component and can bleed noise back into the AC source. If this is what you mean, then it is best to replace them with a linear power supply containing a toroi...
Tekton Double Impacts
@strateahed , using an active sub on a full-range speaker with extended bass will provide the amp with an easier load to drive. The amp needs to use a higher amount of current to drive the low frequencies (more air to push), so if the sub can help...
Tekton Double Impacts
@mac, I wanted to note this inconsistency in how Eric specs his speakers since it has been commented on in other forums. It looks like the majority of the speaker line is 8 ohms nominal, but a few models are 4 to 6 ohms and are measured using 2.83...
Tekton Double Impacts
This speaker line looks very interesting. There is a Tekton owners thread at...http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/tekton-owners-thread.611768/page-44As Almarg pointed out, sensitivity on the DI is actually lower than 98dB due to the 4 ...
Listening room questions
Comforter would be easy to try, but may add too much damping due to size and thickness. Definitely curtains, they worked well on my side wall window.Imaging may be improved if you pull your speakers forward away from the console. I guess that's wh...
Ethical Help from the AudiogoN Community
You've created a good ad and I've seen many like it with a damaged driver. You should include the replacement tweeter in the sale, and also post the list price for the speakers. It's ok to delete John's post, he won't be buying your item.
Why Single-Ended?
Thanks Ralph, I get it now. My many questions have been answered.
Why Single-Ended?
i have a balanced preamp and XLR inputs into my power amp, but the amp inputs are likely not balanced at all (Jolida 502p). Thus when I hooked up a pair of balanced Mogamis to replace whatever the unmarked weird green XLRs (that sound fine by the ...
Request advice-need "brighter" speakers than Totem Hawks
Smart move on your part. Now you can begin to rediscover your music.
PSB Silver i soundstage height
The rake angle is important in soundstage height. Use spikes or footers and have the speakers tilted back slightly.
Why Single-Ended?
@pbnaudio , Thanks, I’m familiar with the Whitlock paper, probably time for me to read it again.Typically Signal ground is isolated from chassis ground with a dual diode in reverse parallel and a resistor - or something similar. Signal ground shou...
