Is there a reliable CD that is safe and works?? Also a CD laser cleaner??
Jim, I think you should remove the top of the unit and clean the lens.Use 70% isopropol alcohol and a Qtip and clean the lens in a back an forth motion, not circular. And don't soak the lens.I got this tip from ARC. I do it about 2x year.

Mac, realise that if you were to any mods inside the speaker, it would void the warranty. An external crossover might be possible, but I think it best to have a schematic of the crossover network, and it would need to be bypassed.
I need a good Preamp
Check out the Atma-sphere MP-1 or MP-3 preamps. Low output impedance, balanced and designed by an engineer/musician with the goal to reproduce music faithfully.
Dac: Does anyhting beat the Schiit Gungnir Multibit (Gumby) in the same price range?
Music Direct offers a 60 day home trial and Schiit offers 14 days. The problem with Schiit is that 14 days is barely enough time to break in the unit, plus they charge a restocking fee.All DACs are different and all systems are different, so it do...
Dac: Does anyhting beat the Schiit Gungnir Multibit (Gumby) in the same price range?
I auditioned the Gungnir Multibit and PS Audio NuWave DSD in my system. Both are very dynamic but I preferred the PS Audio due to its more organic and natural presentation of classical music. It uses a  programable chip similar to the high-end PS ...

Great info, Al, was waiting for your input. My Android locked up, so my post was sorted after yours.

Would love to see the impedance curve of the Electron and the actual sensitivity spec at 4 ohms nominal.
An upgrade a long time overdue
I should listen to my cd collection more - but they are mostly representative of the older sampling methods so somewhat obsolete/incomplete. This is the area where you can benefit most from an upgrade. Modern digital technology has improved the ol...

Good low-end specs and small drivers for smaller rooms. But sensitivity is rated for 8 ohms, and this is a 4 ohm nominal speaker. It’s not too tall at 46", and a small footprint; also good for a small room. If it has rear ports, I wonder how far i...
An upgrade a long time overdue
Agree that a good DAC is the first step, but before you commit to it, tell us if you are interested in streaming or computer audio. There are some fine streamer/DAC units available that can access Tidal and there are also music servers.Oppo now of...
An upgrade a long time overdue
Agree with bob. It seems like you're still putting a system together on paper.First, audition speakers and once you find a pair, then choose an amp that mates perfectly with it. This will be the foundation for your system.Preamp will come next, an...
Can a new brand of power tube even duplicate what this pair of RCA's are putting out?
You should try to pick up some 6BQ5/EL84 RCA's from the 1950s and 60s while they're still available. Usually, the tubes labeled for other companies or for organs (but are built by RCA) cost less than RCA logo. And btw, blackplates have the superio...
Can a new brand of power tube even duplicate what this pair of RCA's are putting out?
Can’t speak to your specific tubes, but 1940s RCA tubes have outstanding low-end extension.
