Worth fixing?
You could check with one of the companies that does mods on the Jolida to get a price for repair and upgrading. The mods include better quality caps, power supply, and isolation. I owned owned a 100A and loved the sonic signature, but thought it l...
Small living room speaker options.. Totem Arro?
Ive auditioned many of the Totem speakers, and in your case I would caution using the Sttaf in your small space. They are fussy speakers as far as placement and need about 3 ft. between rear and wall to get optimal imaging.  The Arro's are made fo...
Improve volume from turntable with a new cartridge?
Lewm’s last comments make a lot of sense. My cartridge has a high output of 5mV, and my volume control is at 10 o’clock and 12 o’clock between TT and CD.If you want try an outboard phonostage, I have heard good things about the iFi iPhono2, as well...
Best "laid-back" speaker cable & interconnects for all Naim system?
That aside, as a former Naim junkie, IMO the cables are not your problem.  If the sound is that objectionable, you need to change the amp.Bad synergy between amp and speakers. That's why you should ask at Naim owners forum.
Strange classified responses
or are they fishing?I wonder if they are fishing or really phishing for details about you. I'm sure it's happening to other members.
Best "laid-back" speaker cable & interconnects for all Naim system?
Here are several suggestions;I know that Vandersteen recommends biwiring their speakers, so perhaps that would provide a more even frequency response. I don't know what your cable budget is, but Purist Audio cables are laid back with a smooth top ...
Best "laid-back" speaker cable & interconnects for all Naim system?
If sfall is correct about the Nait amp, then adding cables is the wrong approach. The Nait produces 50wpc, but it may not have the current required to drive the Vandersteen's. That means it's not a good match for these speakers.Care to weigh in,  ...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy?
tubegroover, that's a serious problem that Sophia has not addressed. I started a thread a few weeks ago where I brought up the subject of NOS 6SN7's becoming microphonic. I don't like the sterile sound of the new production tubes I've heard in the...
Dac: Does anyhting beat the Schiit Gungnir Multibit (Gumby) in the same price range?
Audio GD is supposed to be very good also but if we check spec the R2R ladder resistors in audio GD are 0,1% precision (DA M1 modules) but Ares has 0.01% resistors and the top Denafrips models even use 0,005% resistor ladders. The Ares gets som...
Dac: Does anyhting beat the Schiit Gungnir Multibit (Gumby) in the same price range?
I owned the Chord Qute EX and found it's performance to be excellent. The Chord 2Qute is the upgraded model. The reproduction of music was so realistic and open and did very well in revealing micro-dynamics. The only flaw was the lack of low-end ex...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy?
@almarg , thanks for the additional info. It’s good to know that heater-to-cathode leakage is not influenced by voltage, since I’m considering trying the Sophia’s in my preamp.Al, although the high sensitivity of your speakers reveal the issue wit...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy?
@almarg , I remember your issue with the Sophia's and maybe they can't tolerate voltage levels in some amps. Tubegroover is having good results in a low current device; a CDP.Which makes me wonder if the Sophia's would hold up in a single gain sta...
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy?
Thanks, @tubegroover . I looked up the Sophia Electric 6SN7's and they are compared to a VT-231, so that would make them closer in sonics to NOS. The fact that you are using them in your Modwright/Oppo tells me they must sound more enjoyable than ...
Speaker Jumpers WITH Bars??? - Jumper Using Silver Coins??
That's true; modern silver coins contain no silver. They are copper and nickel clad. Early coins were only 90% silver.Regaring jumpers, if the stock bars are copper coated, IME you will have better results with a pure copper or silver jumper cable.
If NOS pre or power tubes became unavailable altogether, what new tubes would you buy?
@tubegroover ,So far as new tubes, I really like the Sophia Electric 6SN7 tubes which I'm sure are Chinese sourced. Only problem is longevity but they are both linear and extendedIt seems like new production 6SN7's, e.g.; Tung Sol, EH, all have ...
