I'm considering replacing my passive preamp with a tubes. Is it worth it?
The two preamps listed on Audiogon are highly rated for sonics and build quality. But the Schiit is getting raves for its price and performance. Plus, you could run it balanced to your Bryston.
Inside Information
Peter Noerbaek from PBN, Steve Nugent from Empirical are here. Many manufacturers participate on Audio Circle. That's where they also announce info on new models and upgrades.
When and how did you, if at all, realize vinyl is better?
why is it I record a vinyl LP onto digital, and yet the playback has that emotional connection of vinyl that so many report here?Done that and then compared the bought CD, and yes the LP is warmer. After the A/D conversion, both are digital now, w...
Good CDs Bad Recording
@shadorne, If RHCP means the Chili Peppers, then I agree.I consider Rick Rubin to be one of the great producers of our time, in terms of his arrangements and artists' performances. Given that he has worked within certain genres of music; e.g., Rap...
Good CDs Bad Recording
Springsteen's "Born to Run." The story is they were going for the "wall of sound" type of mix, so what we have are some great tunes that sound flat and compressed. And it seems that remastering does not provide much improvement.

Thanks @dbphd . I've only recently moved into computer audio.
Good Speakers with Pass XA30.5 Power Amp?
Having participated in your previous thread, I’d like to add some facts regarding the Synchrony One. It is a demanding load with an impedance magnitude which stays below 4 ohms throughout the midrange and drops below 3 ohms at several frequencies....
Fuse burn in question
Regarding tubes, the components only need to be fully powered-up for burn-in. You can do this overnight,  but to be safe, don't leave tube amps on when away from home.
All my FLAC files are 44.1/16
Open question...why upsample a 44.1/16 CD when ripping? Why not let the ripped file go to the DAC in its native rate? Some DACS will process it as 44/16, i.e., multi-bit, and some will upsample it.
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp
ARC is a good choice, but understand that my recommendation of changing speakers and keeping the Pass is due to my belief that there are many speakers better than the Synchrony to build a system around. I owned both the One and Two, and PSB discon...

@sbank , I've used XLD on my Mac and it works very well. I forget, doesn't it save ripped tracks into the iTunes library?
PSB Synchrony One Speakers and Pass XA30.5 Amp
Look for a more efficient speaker (over 90dB sensitivity), preferably 8 ohms, which rules out Dynaudio, Totem, B&W.Kef, Klipsch, GoldenEar are efficient speakers that can be driven by tube amps and are more transparent than PSB. Even if you we...

it’s been suggested I should use uncompressed AIFF. But iTune AIFF is limited to 48 kbytes. A Redbook CD’s sample rate is 44.1 kHz, which is 1411 kbps. With itunes, use AIFF encoder, click on Import Settings, then use Custom.https://support.apple...
