Time for dedicated outlets! Something that I’ve wondered about, electricians use staples when running cables. Any audible effect ? (as long as they don’t pierce the jacket).
Hum sound ..is it me or is it you? LOUD hum in system Ask him to use a cheater plug on the preamp and plug directly into the wall. Tell him this will test for a ground-loop in his setup. If there’s no more hum, the preamp is probably fine.
Time for dedicated outlets! You have to assume the electrician doesn't know anything about high end audio,So true, even if he tells you about all the home audio systems that he's wired. There are many tips on dedicated lines in the Archives.
Should All Power Cables be Alike? That’s right, Todd. And I meant to say 20 amp "cables" have different connectors. Also, the 20A line and breaker is for the total current draw of all components. The PS Audio P10 combined with the amp into the wall would not exceed 20 amps.
Should All Power Cables be Alike? So, you recommend using a 10 or 12 gauge AC power cord - I assume that translates into a 20 AMP AC cord from the AC wall outlet to the power center? I have 20 AMP AC wire to my circuit breaker. The circuit breaker and dedicated line are rated 20 am...

Lesson in Tube Rolling:: My confirmed need for "air on top" via 12au7 ECC82 5814a tubes @samzx12 ,ECC82 /12AU7 Mullard longplates, square getter, 1950s vintage, Great Britain. Found on Brent Jessee site...These are all the older long narrow plate version, with the rare early SQUARE top getter, with the 1950s date code. These are ...
Lesson in Tube Rolling:: My confirmed need for "air on top" via 12au7 ECC82 5814a tubes @jbhiller ,If the Mullard CV4003 is too laid-back for you, the 12AU7 Mullard or Brimar longplate square getter is more dynamic, yet still has good warmth and sweet mids.
Lesson in Tube Rolling:: My confirmed need for "air on top" via 12au7 ECC82 5814a tubes The Amperex (Holland) 7316 is a rare and expensive tube. Have you tried any 1950s Amperex Bugle Boys yet (Holland 12AU7)? Very musical, incredible 3D imaging, dynamic with air on top...IMO more realistic than Cleartops.
Good DAC for playing computer files/streaming *and* SACD discs with transport? What is your budget for DAC plus transport?
Lesson in Tube Rolling:: My confirmed need for "air on top" via 12au7 ECC82 5814a tubes Sure, try 4 Cleartops in various positions. They do have good bass slam, and air on top. It will be interesting to see what happens when using them with the Mullard EL’s. Realize that Mullard reissues are brighter and more forward than NOS Mullards.
Recording Studio sound Vs. Audiophile system @bdp24 , now you've brought up an entirely new subject; the mastering studio. I would imagine a top-tier studio would have to have gear that reproduces "audiophile" quality. Too bad mastering engineers are at the mercy of The Loudness Wars or the ...
Recording Studio sound Vs. Audiophile system So far, I assume we have been discussing Rock music production. Jazz and Classical would be treated very differently as far as the use of effects and compression. I once mixed down a Classical performance for PBS, syncing picture and sound, and th...
Recording Studio sound Vs. Audiophile system It's been my experience that in a control room, engineers use equalizers and acoustic treatments to set up the room to measure as flat as possible. Having said that, the recording/mixing engineer is listening to the monitors in a near-field situat...
Surge protection for amps? @asahitoro ,I use that Furman as a power strip/surge protection for my amp. It is plugged directly into the wall and all my other components are running off a separate conditioner.http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/furman-ss-6b-surge-block... |
