Need some
If it were me, I'd recap the Hafler and spend the rest on a nice used tube preamp or seek out a B&K EX442, PS Audio 200C, Perreaux, or Acoustat TNT200 and tube preamp...I'd probably do the latter and seek out a new amp instead of recapping the...
Buiding listening room from scratch - need advice
Re: your room - as a former property manager for many years, I used this home theatre product (Green Glue) in several different commercial and residential applications to deaden the noise coming from one unit to another. It was a very cost effecti...
Hi Fi House liquidation
Joe,If it's any easier for you, I'm off work tomorrow and live in Wynnewood. I have to go to Havertown tomorrow morning and could easily slide by Broomall for you, then meet up with you later in the day to give the items to you so you can ship. Ca...
$1500 for a whole system, budding audiophile
Thank you Pgawan2b, recently an old friend contacted me and told me her husband was looking for a pair of JBL 4311's on ebay and what I thought of it. He's an old school guy and has been out of audio for many years but has some nostalgia for these...
Your most disappointing purchase or audition?
Another vote for MF.Back in the day, HiFi Heretic magazine listed the Music Fidelity B1 integrated amp as one of the 10 best buys in Audio along with the B&K ST140, Spica TC50s and I forget what else. Was lucky enough to find a B1 with an owne...
The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
I recently saw a pair of Symdex speakers in the local Phila area on CL for $50. They could have been the Sigmas, I'm not sure of the exact model as Symdex's are quite rare. I quickly contacted the seller that I wanted them and can pick them up any...
Sold speakers you really enjoyed?... But why?
Tempting Ct, but I'm really quite satisfied and enamored with a little unknown, under the radar speaker - Paisley Research AE500's. They are quite amazing, only selling for $900 back in the day, but I swear if ProAc or Celestion made them, they co...
Any Recommendations on Custom Speaker Stands?
If you do a search on youtube for "Yamaha NS1000" check out the speaker stands from Kenrick Sound that are underneath the Yamaha NS1000 speakers. They are simple, unique, and look to be the right height for you.
Sold speakers you really enjoyed?... But why?
ProAc Studio 1's - sold b/c as a soon-to-be father, I needed baby proof speakers, and up on spiked Chicago spkr stands, they were anything but baby-proofChateau Research 1.5's - sold b/c with a young infant, I got out of audio for a few yearsTanno...
Good inexpensive temporary speakers
I second the ProAc Studio 1's, the early version. I had them for 5 years and always sounded great. But since they are temporary, if you really want to try something fun, Celestion C-7's or Mission 70's mk II. You can get the Celestions for about $...
The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
Does anyone remember the Black Max model B50 speakers?
Budget floorstading with a good waf.... Help
I thought Johnnyb53 was responding to the original poster Georgelfre???
Lowend Preamp on a budget.
Maybe it's the former Audio salesman in me, but when I see a thread like this, I want to know much more about all the other gear the original poster has, the room it's going to be in, what types of music he/she listens to, how loud, and what type ...
What's In Your Tape Cassette Deck Tonight?
I just inherited about 200 more to go with the 300+ I already own.
How far have you gone?
I once brought a Music Reference RM5 mkII preamp with me on a vacation from Philly to LA and then drove up the coast to SF to personally deliver it. The buyer met me in the lobby of my hotel room and then when he showed up, he asked me about a dis...
