The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
Does anyone remember the Black Max model B50 speakers?
Budget floorstading with a good waf.... Help
I thought Johnnyb53 was responding to the original poster Georgelfre???
Lowend Preamp on a budget.
Maybe it's the former Audio salesman in me, but when I see a thread like this, I want to know much more about all the other gear the original poster has, the room it's going to be in, what types of music he/she listens to, how loud, and what type ...
What's In Your Tape Cassette Deck Tonight?
I just inherited about 200 more to go with the 300+ I already own.
How far have you gone?
I once brought a Music Reference RM5 mkII preamp with me on a vacation from Philly to LA and then drove up the coast to SF to personally deliver it. The buyer met me in the lobby of my hotel room and then when he showed up, he asked me about a dis...
How far have you gone?
A 2 hour or a 75-100 mile drive is my limit to buy audio gear, but I don't spend megabucks on this hobby. If I did, I'd be willing to drive further.
Best bourbon?
I vote that Audiogon expand their Virtual System page to include a "Virtual Liquor Cabinet" page....seems like that's where we are heading with these Best Bourbon & Best Single Malt threads. I got the cute little $5.99 bottle of Blantons - not...
Musical, high powered Amp under $1k
If you can find a B&K EX442 Sonata, sweet, musical, and tube-like as all heck. I once a/b'd an EX442 Sonata against a pr of Paoli 60M tube monoblocks (8417 outputs) which is a super moded pr of Dyna MkIII's and could barely tell the difference...

What is that, an 845 output with a 300B input tube? I've definitely not seen anything like them. I'm quite sure they are amazing sounding as I have heard some great 845 amps, but for me, if I ever go back to SETs, I prefer the opposite - very low ...

The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
I agree, the Paisleys are terrific speakers. I think if Celestion or ProAc made them and marketed them at $2-2500, they would sell all day at that price. I'd be very lucky to come across another pair of Raunas at a reasonable price. If it's meant ...

I hear you about not remembering what you had for breakfast, as I'm getting to that age too, or maybe I'm there already, as I just realized that I haven't eaten breakfast at all today :) I'm trying to get a handle on your comments. I've read so ma...
The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
Those were the speakers I heard the first time stepping into a really high end audio store and I'll never forget how great they sounded. You know, when your jaw drops to the ground in amazement. Same thing happened the first time I heard SET amps....

Manufacturers don't get it. make tubes visible.
I also agree with most others here to keep the tubes visible. I remember Roger Modjeski of Music Reference once writing about his tube amp philosophy - keep the transformers in the back and the tubes in the front for better ventilation. And his am...
