The Best & Rarest of all Stereo Gear
Anyone ever own the Streets Electronic 950 amp or a Wingate amp?  Those looked awesome.  I once heard a Wingate at a high end show, but the rep was this young kid who believed everyone wanted to hear it at ear splitting levels and wouldn't turn it...
Finally stepping into the hobby after 30 years of watching from the sidelines
Hi Cottguy,Haven't been on A'gon in a while but have read this whole thread with great interest.  Been in this hobby for about 30 years now and have read countless reviews of high end gear over the years and owned lots of gear too.  I sold audio g...
What's going on with the audio market?
55, 30, ?I can get by on a lot less these days and that pertains to audio as well.  At most, audio is only an 8-9 month hobby out of the year.  In summer, I don't want to sit on my rear and listen to music, only when I'm couped up during the winte...
Automatic Tables
Surprisingly several yrs back, I went to an audio show where one room featured great SET tube amps with expensive single driver speakers and very mediocre sources.  I'm talking a sony close n play TT and a 1st gen. Technics cd player and it sounde...
Beautiful tubes make beautiful music .....
I guess its all about synergy too when it comes to tubes.  I had RCA clear top AU7's also in a early Jeff Korneff 6bq5 int amp with Telefunken 6bq5's several yrs ago and didn't think that much of the clear tops either.  I then put a pr of Mullard ...
Audio - Post Divorce
A beautiful woman I recently met had an interesting theory on divorce that I hadn't thought about.  Since we are all living longer, that by about 50 or so, if you've been in a long marriage as we have both been, you realize that you hopefully have...
Audio - Post Divorce
Rich,So sorry to hear of your Grandson.  My parents lost a son three years ago at 57 and it's never easy.  Hang in there.  I've found you never really heal, you just learn to live with it......Having said that, I look forward to 2016 being a great...
Klipsch love them or hate them.
Old Klipsch with low powered SET amps only.  Nothing else needs to be said....
Amps which are Great, but either Unknown or Underpriced
Jeff Korneff amps and Derek Sanderson's Fleawatt chip amps - you might just sell your 300b SET for one of Derek's offerings and not miss it at all.....Other than that, I've always liked the older B&K amps as giantkillers like the above 2 names...
R.I.P. David Bowie
A true original who reinvented himself many times as the years went by...I've been non stop listening to his music since his passing and have now come to really appreciate the genius that he was.  Even the songs I've heard and started to dislike b...
Can a name make you or break you in the Audio World
I used to sell Adcom products at retail many many years ago and they always used interesting model numbers.  Ever wonder why all of their products began with GF for their amps, preamps and tuners?  It stood for Great Fu&kin, as in GFA1, GFA2, ...
Another
I'm partial to tubes because to me they sound the most pleasing and realistic. That being said, I would try your amp with a tube preamp as with all of the class D, gainclones, chip amps, etc that I have heard, they all sound great but a little too...
Klipsch KG4 v. Vandersteen 2ce NOT Sig
The Vandersteens are much better suited for the amp and preamp that you are using over the Klipsch's. The KG4's and other Klipsch's are really at their best with low powered SET amps and you would be quite amazed at how they sound with low powered...
Antique Sound Lab MGsi 15 DT
I continue to enjoy the sound of this amp whether it's in Triode or Pentode mode. The larger Paisley Research speakers are much better suited to my large living room; however, the Mordaunt Short MS20's are also very sweet sounding as well. I still...
Best pre-amp in an integrated
The other variable here is how loud you typically listen to music and the size of your room. I also agree, pick the speakers that you like best and build around them because there are so many variables in speakers that picking the amp first leaves...
