Best bourbon?
Evan Williams single barrell, Makers Mark, & Woodford Reserve are my favorites....I'm getting 2 bottles of sealed/unopened Crown Royal that's stamped 1970 or 1975 (I forget)...how good do you think this will be?
Best single-malt Scotch...
Not a big drinker at all, but recently been introduced to single malt scotch and have sampled: Dalwinnie 15 yr, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, & Glenmorangie 10 yr. The Dalwinnie and Glenmorangie are my favorites but I think I like bourbon better.
Integrated amp: jumpers versus cables
I assume we're talking about the jumpers in the pre out/main in section of an integrated amp and not the jumpers on a bi-wire speakers. If they are designed as kind of an on/off switch to merge the amp and preamp sections together, then how does i...
Anyone still playing on Cassette decks?
I just got rid of my Nak BX125 so will have to find something else to play my 400 or so cassettes and also am too lazy to xfer them to digital...back in the day, mid 80's, it was between the Nak and an AIWA F990 with the horizontal type keyboard -...
Mordaunt-Short loudspeakers
I'm looking to pick up a pair of 25ti's locally from CL if still available. I seem to prefer a metal dome tweeter in speakers as opposed to rubber/cloth dome tweeters as I just find the metal dome is more natural sounding, but sometimes can sound ...
How to pack speakers w/out original boxes?
Very good advice here and just wanted to add....I use the heavy duty extra large trash bags to wrap speakers in to keep them clean from the styrofoam debris.
Affordable SS amp that has tube characteristics
Your budget is $3500. I'm going to give you the best piece of advice from 28 years in this hobby....save yourself a load of green and check out a B&K EX442 Sonata, incredibly tube-like, powerful, mosfet, a true giant-killer of an amp that you ...
Best and Worst names in Audio
I second Dne's choice......and also recall an ad from a very high end German turntable mfgr calling their turntable, "the vinyl solution"...
best vintage stereo receiver
I had a H/K 330C and a Mitsubishi DA-R8 back in the day and liked them both very much. If I went back to a classic receiver, I think I'd consider one of the larger H/K's like the 430/730/930 or later HK receivers from the early to mid 80's. Curiou...
What is your favorite 1 hit wonder from the 70's?
Someone mentioned, "Mexican Radio" / Wall of VooDoo, think that one was from the 80's too...Good thread, as I'm reading the entries, I'm recalling all of these tunes in my head and remember nearly all of them...How about, "Billy don't be a hero" t...
What equipment do you most regret parting with??
Proceed PCD2, Music Reference RM9, Music Reference RM5 mkII, cj MV50, Korneff 6bq5 SE integrated, B&O Beogram RX TT - just a super cool TT imo....
Spray Adhesive advice to repair speaker grills???

Soundproof material for a dedicated room
I 2nd the green glue recommendation. I used to manage real estate and had a few tenants that used it with great success. It was a very cost effective solution. They suggest using 3 tubes per 4x8 sheet of 1/2 or preferably 5/8" thick drywall with l...
Amps for Klipschorn speakers
If you want to hear what your Klipschorn's are really capable of then put a low powered SET amp on them like a 2A3 or 45 amp and you will be amazed. There's nothing like it. You don't need to spend $3-5K on each piece, you can spend quite a lot le...
Tuners that do it?
I've had some pretty nice tuners over the years that were highly recommended and now have a Creek CAS-3140 with a din-rca cord that I enjoy very much as well - but one of the finest sounding tuners I've ever heard was a modified Dyna FM3. I've nev...
