Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Hey Boxer - you wouldn't happen to have one of Jeff Korneff's 6bq5 integrateds would you?  I had one many years ago, sold it to someone in Washington state who was using it with Klipschhorns.  What an amp!  I now have a couple custom SE int amps b...

Most Beautiful Receiver / Integrated - Ever was... ?
Lots of sexy receivers from the 70's and 80's.  I had a Tandberg 3030 receiver a while back which was pretty sexy looking.  The old wide B&O receivers were also nice looking as wellIts all a matter of preference.  The big Sansui G series are g...

Canton or ads small bookshelf spkrs? Which is better?
Hmmm, I didn't find my little Cantons bright at all.  I've read that the L300's may be better sounding than the slightly larger L400's but the 400's are nicer aesthetically
Canton or ads small bookshelf spkrs? Which is better?
The Cantons aren't sweet sounding and disappear like a good British 2 way speaker does.  It's accurate, musical, and images very nicely, there's just something right about how it sounds.I should add that I'll be using them with a 100 wpc Tandberg ...
The one that got away
Over the years, several women gave gotten away, but only 1 audio piece comes to memory that got away.  About 10-12 years ago, I was bidding on a custom pair of SE 6V6 tube amps from Canada.  I never bought anything from Canada so I asked a ton of ...
Speaker jumpers
Get a 6 inch piece of Romex and use the copper ground wire, see how that works, costs pennies if you can't get one for free from someone.  If you don't like it, just biwire your speakers, that is usually best anyway.
Looking for an used, inexpensive pre amp
Any of the chip amps totally benefit by having a tube preamp in front of them to warm up the sound.Having said that I might have a tube preamp for you under $100.  It is an Aric Audio preamp and has 3 line stage inputs.  Is that enough for you?  I...

Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
Great thread Erik! I was 20 years old in 1980, so the 80s gear was my intro into high end gear having owned a Mitsubishi DA-R8 rec’r & B&O RX tt in the early 80s to owning a B&K ST-140,  Music Reference RM5 pre & Rega Planar 3 by t...
Preamp with Tuner
I've recently seen two of the better models locally on CL in the Philadelphia area.  Mitsubishi makes a really nice looking preamp-tuner as does Revox.  Adcom also makes a preamp tuner, but I'd take the Mitsu or Revox in a heartbeat over the Adcom...
How do we remember 1970s amplifiers?
Kirkus - truly great thread here.  Enjoying reading all about this 70's gear.  This was a little before my time getting into high end.  Back in the 70's, I was still with my HK 330c receiver not getting into separates until in the mid 80's.Actuall...
